The Star on Sunday reported that Bradley Johnson will not sign an extention of his contract with Leeds because he wants £6k per week.

Are we paying that much lower than Leeds because there has been suggestions that we have offered Glen Murray £6.5k per week . Is that not pretty standard for the majority of clubs in The Championship

It's not so much a question of what the clubs can afford as much as it's a question of whether or not the club thinks a player is worth it or not. Clearly Johnson wants more than Leeds want to pay him which is no different to a lot of out of contract players at this time of year.

My point is that Johnson is an established Championship player who will ask for the highest he can get. I would assume that many at Leeds are on that amount per week and if the reports about it being offered to Murray we cannot be far off the mark and be paying about avarage for this division.

Don't think we are top six. Think Gus said there will be clubs with a bigger budget.

I think last season we had the 5th/6th highest budget (according to a Gus quote) but next season, despite our budget doubling, it wont be top 6. More mid-table I think Bloom said.

I gather, from various internet posting and tid bits you here, 3.5k would be the max we'd pay a week in League One but that will double next season. The top, top Championship strikers can demand 10k. Given that Murray isn't proven in the Championship it seems Palace are taking a gamble on him if the rumours are true. We'll be able to get other good strikers with our budget.

6k for a midfielder, would be a pretty high wage in the Championship.

Didn't Johnson go through the same thing with Leeds last year?

Charlie Adam is on £7,500 p/w at the moment. Puts things into perspective considering that Keiron Dyer is on £80,000 + p/w.

The club MUST keep to a wage structure in order to function effectively.
