Simples really.....leaving out our defenders, this lot don't even look like they've got a goal in them.

We haven't scored an open play goal at home since Watford on the 21st of August - and that goal came from a mistake from their defence. We have not scored a home goal that wasn't a penalty since the 19th September. These are deeply worrying statistics and Potter has questions to answer.

Coaches do (and have done) a wonderful job at developing technical skills, formations and athleticism. The players that represent our club currently are unbelievably talented. However, you cannot win matches without scoring. Our side are great from the keeper to the opposing 18 yard box but then they run out of ideas. And when faced with equally technical and organised teams they REALLY struggle to unlock them. We are also clearly very averse to losing the ball "cheaply" by shooting speculatively. Mind you, we're also a very poor shooting side.

This is not a new phenomenon, and it's not necessarily just an Albion problem - but we are pretty unique in that we are a fantastic footballing side who find it (increasingly) difficult to score. That's a conundrum and it's THE thing that GPott and the coaching staff has to crack and quickly.

Additional - if the surgeon has fixed a structural problem with Welbeck's hamstring and he does get a run of games - I'm sure Potter will look at going more direct through the middle. We have to turn defences more and we have to shoot more.

Genuinely believe its coached out of them in favour of passing the ball sideways and backwards. The last player who took shots on was Jahanbakhsh

Coached yeh, It must be.

Based on a statistical analysis that recycling it wide instead of shooting is less likely to lead to an opposition counter attack and will increase the number of corners we get (and bugger up)

Another one who had a go was Percy Tau.

I remember his beautiful through ball to Welbeck for him to score. At the time I thought how refreshing, I haven't seen any Brighton player do that in years.

So we got rid.

Every side wants to play like Pep Guardiola teams play. Even teams from the Conference League try it. But if you haven't got an Ilkay Gundogan in your team, the chances of it generating a lot of goals isn't so high

It's too easy to stop us scoring. Throw everyone behind the ball and all we can do is try to cross it to the 5 foot nothing strikers up front which of course rarely works and when we do get a chance, our players have the composure of a rabbit in headlights. Everyone defends the same. Narrow, deep defending with a couple players that can smash the ball away. The teams that don't do that are the big teams, hence why we look good against them.

We don't counter with enough pace. You look at teams such as City and Liverpool who also regularly play against the low block. Most of their goals come from lightning fast counter attacks, whilst we're happy to keep the ball and let the opposition get back into position. Wolves could've had a couple more if they finished yesterday through counters.

An Ulloa type player would do fantastic in this team with Maupay it has to be said.

I have absolutely no idea why fans shout:-

"Shoooooooot"

When an Albion player, esp Biss, has the ball at his feet 20 yards out.

I suspect this is another side effect of the Amex's wonky acoustics.
What we are saying to Biss is "Don't Shoooooooot!"

Yep. And end of thread.

At least Bissouma has done it. Doing it with Cucurella given the evidence of his shooting is particularly baffling.

Although we should probably start shouting it at any Brighton player in the opposition area given how frequently they don't even then.

He was an exciting player. Disruptive style. Completely misunderstood by most supporters. And perhaps also the management.

The missmatch between our general play and our chance creation is so extreme that I suspect many of us can't quite get our heads around it. The latter is probably so poor that we would be a basket case relegation candidate were the rest of our game not so good. I can't really get my head around it to be honest.

Not ballooning the ball over the bar from a yard out would be a good start towards fixing the problem. How often have we done that this season? Somebody should do a comedy compilation - because you have to laugh or else you'd cry

Certainly not a PL standard player.

We saw too little of him to be certain. I am in a minority in that I could see lovely touches that other missed or dismissed

But he was not the solution to the goal drought. Not on his own. It's the entire style of play that is at fault, but I'm not smart enough to know how to change it.
