If not verbal assault, common assault perhaps. But you're saying this is attempted murder?

This is just one of many idiots that have done this. They do it to upset or distress their victims in the same way they will make any other kind of threat.

You cannot stop idiots being idiots and you can't lock every one of them up either.

The best thing we can do is expect some people to behave this way & ensure our police have adequate PPE to mitigate the risks from such behaviour.

He said he had what we all know is a deadly disease and he coughed over officer (which I`m sure you know is a good way to infect someone) saying he wanted the policeman and his family to be infected.
I`m with you on the PPE that police need, a .38 would have stopped the thug getting close enough !!

Genuinely scary that there are people that believe justice should work like this.

Fortunately we have a justicial system that deals in fact, rather than emotions and assumptions.

You obviously don`t believe he was hoping to kill the policeman and his family.

We`ll have to agree to disagree !!

I think on balance it's probably correct even though the person is an arse-hole.

Even under these times coughing on someone doesn't warrant putting more pressure on the justice and prison systems.

He's got a criminal record and a fine and his name is name is in the Daily Mail. He won't do it again.

There we are. Just like that. All sorted.

It seems he said he had Corona but I don't think he actually did have it.

I think if he'd knowingly spread the virus in that manner, then a prison sentence would have been fair. As it is, the largest possible fine for verbal assault and anti-social behaviour combined would satisfy me.

Why would I believe that? I don't have all the facts!

I assume that it was an idle threat, just like all of the other idiots that make the same threat. It is improbable that he actually had the virus and I doubt he believed he did either. But even if he did, what is the probability of him infecting the police officer through a cough? Negligable I presujme, but then I am not a virologist.
But it doesn't matter what we think. The only thing that matters is which crime he has committed - verbal assault I'm guessing - and what the courts have decided having looked at all the facts based on our well established laws - a fine and a criminal record in this instance.
If you think that facts aren't important - or that there should be new & extremely harsh laws for cough related offenses - or that police should carry guns and should use them when feeling threatened - fair enough! I just pray that you're in a minority!

Agree we should agree to disagree!!

If you had been that Copper I wonder whether you would feel the same.
Or maybe if the Copper had been your partner, mother or father, son or daughter?

You’re absolutely right that the facts are important. Do we know if the accused was tested for the virus? If so was it negative or positive? If it had been positive, would anyone change their views about the sentence?
