Our Groundshare options post-Goldstone

Was in lecture today wearing my Worthing scarf, and when I told the lecturer what team it was he remarked that he had reported at our ground once before, the reason being that at the time Worthing's ground was considered as one of the options for a groundshare before we settled at Gillingham, although he added that apprently the idea was only mulled over for a few days.

This is the first I've heard of this, and was just wondering if the proposal to groundshare at Woodside was common knowledge at the time, and also where else was considered other than Gills and Pompey?

Crawley was considered, but Crawley council vetoed it.

Why were you wearing a scarf in your lecture? Is it very cold there?

Well I have a cold at the moment and wearing my scarf has become a bit of a habit! Anway was just walking into the lecture when he asked what team it was, and took it off when I was seated

Dick Knight tried to get out of our lease at Gillingham but scully said no,the plan was to groundshare with Millwall

Millwall was more than mooted. It was DK's preferred option and might have happened until the Met Police put their oar in and said they couldn't cope with hoardes of Albion fans descending on the New den.

Not of course that they have had ANY problems with Millwall fans!!!!!

As we had already got a deal in place with Gillingham, finances dictated that we went there.

I wonder how many of us would of gone to Millwall.

Would you of preferred going to Millwall or Gillingham ??

Millwall might have been slightly more convenient for me as for match days we used to base ourselves in Orpington, but I wouldn't have minded either actually. But there again I'm one of the few people here with good memories (yes really) of our time at Priestfield.

Not for the football obviously but my wife comes from Orpington, so we'd drive up there for lunch (always sausage, egg and chips because it's what the kids liked), and then the kids and me would take grandad/father-in-law off to the match whilst the wife stayed for a chin-wag with her mum. Then we'd come home from a shit performance to a roaring fire, a pot of tea and a plate of sandwiches. Happy days. The kids (now 23 and nearly 18) still talk fondly of those times.

Just far enough away from LDC
The full list that I know of;

Portsmouth (announced at same times as sale of the ground)
Crawley town mead - purely speculative and amounted to bellotti and archer turning up as john maggs was mowing the pitch without an appointment and asking but a non starter as crawley were relocating and no point wasting money on redeveloping town mead
Gillingham - announced when portsmouth got cold feet
Worthing woodside road - speculative and never got off the ground

Dick knight's options were

Millwall - turned down by met police
Woking - turned down by local police
Crawley broadfield - turned down by local council

Before withdean was settled on the other temporary ground options were

Greyhound stadium - issue due to sale of land on what was alliance and leicester
Sheepcote valley - ruled out due to traffic
Preston park bike track - non starter
County ground - slope of pitch made it impossible
