Worthing
Wasn't Revie later supposed to be mixed up in some dodgy financial deals out in the UAE? Wasn't into gambling, was he?

Wouldn't it be funny if an investigation was held and it turned out that the Leeds players / management had been in on a fix?

I'd say just leave it. The time for recriminations and investigations was immediately after the game, not two generations later!

"I would urge all football fans to sign the petition"

There speaks a publicity seeking politician who clearly knows absolutely nothing about football then:lolol:

As for a staggering response- Leeds average gate these days must be around the 20,000 mark, so the fact only 6000 have signed the petition is pretty poor.

Ah, rewriting football history is the name of the game, is it? ???

xxxx people have signed a SUssex MEP's petition demanding an investigation into Southampton and Tottenham's 1978 0-0 draw at The Dell.

The match has long been suspected of being fixed, with both teams playing out such a tedious and cynically unambitious bore-fest so dubious that the Football League rewarded them both with promotion and condemned Brighton & Hove Albion to another long season in Division Two.

An anonymous Brighton official, who has written to players from the era, is calling for an investigation into the match, and should evidence be found of fixing, the promotion awarded to the Seagulls and every subsequent Football League season completely revised accordingly.

He said "The staggering response to the petition demonstrates the level of feeling and sense of injustice that still surrounds the match. Match fixing still goes on today, and Brighton & Hove Albion are by no means the only victims in the past".

"The Football League must start showing a clear commitment to tackling the problem and prove they are determined to crack down on corruption, financial imprudence and clubs going into administration willy nilly to avoid paying off innocent creditors.

"This is not a matter of being a Brighton & Hove Albion supporter, but it is a question of the integrity of football. I would urge all football fans to sign the petition".

When I first started watching the Albion we were regularly getting 30,000+ into the Goldstone and then started playing in the top tier division before reaching the FA Cup final. On that basis I am staking a claim that Albion are a big club!

I think the definition of a 'big club' varies. I mean you can look at a clubs last 10 years and determine whether or not they qualify or look at the 100 year history of a club and make the same decision. Additionally you should remove any personal animosity from the decision and base it on facts. So on that basis, Leeds Utd are a bunch of streaky pissed northern gits that are definitely not a big club because I said so!

Edna................ dates and times should be a speciality of yours !

Oh sorry, I've just been reading the G20 thread.

Obviously, being a fascist, robotic instrument of the state, I must have been trying to whitewash the dates :)

The police wanted the CPS to prosecute him for Fraud and match fixing, I think it was. but as he was very near to death his lawyers persuaded the police/CPS it wasnt in the public interest as he would never live long enough to get to court and it proved to be right he didnt. I am sure that is what I read.

I've been thinking about this and was just imagining someone starting a counter petition, for example on the Downing Steet website.

We, the undersigned, recognise that Leeds United is no longer a big club and that the ridiculous petition recently started by Richard Corbett M.E.P. is nothing more than a publicity stunt by him to gain votes and a futile grasping at straws by some deluded football fans as they prepare for their third season in the 3rd Division.

I've gone ahead and done it. I'll post the link when No.10 have "apporoved" it

Then we just need someone who knows how to send a link to all the other clubs who are sick to death of Leeds fans whining and bob’s your uncle.

Surely as that Leeds United were dissolved in 2007 owing millions to creditors the entire question is irrelevant?
