The only rules are

Max 25 players over 21
8 of these have to be "home grown"

A homegrown player, as defined by the Premier League, is a player who: (a) is 21 or older on January 1 of the year in which that season begins and (b) spent 36 months between the ages of 16 and 21 with a team in the English league system.

Eh?

Those are not the ONLY rules, involved.

Non EU-Nationals still need a work permit to live and work in the UK. Footballers like anyone else are not exempt from that.

In order to be granted a work permit, non-EU nationals have to be shown to be able to do a job that someone local could not. In the case of footballers, the criteria used to determine this, is that they've played for their own nation, in a certain % of the recent (previous 12 months?) international matches.

i.e. You can only sign a young Argentinian striker if he's capped by Argentina at full international level. Of course, this is why a high % of 'Argentines' playing in Europe have scoured their ancestry and secured an Italian passport, to exempt them from the requirement.

See also Brazilians with Portuguese passports, Ivorians with French passports, etc.

Friday - ON OUR RADAR - a few tweaks and updates

(ps: thanks for all your kind words about my list making)

Markus Suttner - It's that German connection again. 30 year old Full back/CB. Via A report in German paper "Kicker" and perhaps another player from that relegated FC Ingolstadt 04. Has "merit" says that Bozza and he normally knows. 7/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...Markus-Suttner
Kieran Gibbs Another left back. The Arse have him up for sale at £15m and are struggling for suitors. Albion (and a few others) are "looking into " but lets face it the price will have to tumble. 2/10 unless Wenger has a clearance sale.
Gianluca-Lapadula Scored 8 goals in SERIA A for Milan last season. 27 year old striker. "we've sent a delegation" to watch him says sketchy local news reports. Watch him score a hat trick it appears as Italy thumped San Marino. 3/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...-Milan-Striker
James Troisi Another Oz international . "Negotiations intensifying" and "looks set to join" says local proper Oz paper. Played v Brazil last night and lost 4-0 so clearly getting ready a for a difficult season in the Prem with us. 6/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...ions-intensify
Simon Kjaer "readying a 7.5m bid" says Talk Sport - ie: they found the sauce as did NS user; Jamie The Seagull on Turkish sports site ; Fotomac. But really. Another centre back ? I'm giving it 3/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...Fenerbahce-CB/
*new* Mooy - Its all back on. It really is Brighton OZ Hove Albion this summer. "remains of keen interest" to Albion says Argus (ie: Paul Barber). "I was on the M1, got a call from Chris Hughton and just decided to head down south" perhaps as poor old Hudds look likely to be gazumped if not by us then up to 3 or 4 other interested parties. 5/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?352419-Aaron-Mooy/
Will Hughes - not *new* really as Albion have been sniffing around him for years. The Mail had a report at the weekend saying we've opened bidding at £4m (as if !) and will Rowett let him go ? Can't really see this one. 3/10
World CUP WINNER - Josh Onomah - "wanted on loan" says The Sun but then how many loanees can we actually have (just 2) so who knows. The usual suspects (Hudds, Celtic) want him too. Surely post u20s hype so 4/10
Musa - (no change) Out of favour Leicester forward. NO, NOT THAT ONE. STILL ONLY A single report in the Express which quotes his agent in er, "OwngoalNigeria". "Sounded out" he says. Well THEY ALL SAY THAT.. 2/10.
Ferland Mendy - Le Havre. No report since initial flurry which normally indicates guff. 21 year old French full back. Albion clearly eyeing up this position mind. 2/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?352892-Ferland-Mendy-Le-Havre-left-back
Joe Gomez -Argus are keen. Bleacher Report says today (Friday) "edging closer". 8/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?352948-Joe-Gomez
Tammy - Barber finally comes clean !! A rare public statement from the club about a potential signing. "Its no secret he's of interest to us" admitted PB. But everyone and his mother now keen. Still 5/10 i reckon
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?351496-Tammy-Abraham/
Ryan - Surely Surely DONE. Barber hinting strongly. Guess we'll need to wait until the Confed Cup is over. Australia unlikely to hang on so , i guess, next week. 10/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?352843-Matt-Ryan/
Genki - (no change) still not going away. Nothing for days. And another winger 4/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?352435-Genki-Haraguchi/
Cafu - (no change) Quiet for a bit.. Fair amount of reports/guesses in big papers. Clearly a striker is on the cards but not this one ? 4/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?351221-Cafu
Maenpaa - Not sure of delay with this one. All signed, sealed and ...Presumably on holiday. Barber says they are still at it. 10/10
A.Another - Gross style signing out of the blue not rumoured anywhere. 10/10.
u23 A.Nother Exciting new signing but then you realise they're headed direct to Dev Squad never to be seen again or for BHAWFC. 10/10

Long since Dropped from list as it was too long anyway: Macdonald, Snodgrass, Cairney.

Signed: Gross.
New Contracts: Stephens, Sidwell, Bong, Maenpaa (TBC)
Gone: Stockdale
For Sale Norwood.
For Loan Walton, Lua Lua, Manu, Ince , Towell, Hunt

NB: A bit of caution in BHAFC rumoursville. Andy Naylor reminds us pushers of this gossipfest.
"Nothing in a lot of the names you're seeing".

Remember That PB singing strategy. "we don’t just have a single player on our list. We have a cluster of players of the same quality and that is how we work. This whole transfer window, as always, is very much a waiting game. People have to be patient.

And these words from TB. Its mostly his money after all:
"Money is spent every season at every single club. We have to strengthen, that goes without saying. But we’re not looking to spend huge amounts. We’ll do things on a gradual basis, as we have done. We have good players already, and we want to strengthen from that position."

Anyone missing - let me know. I NEED A SAUCE to include.

Maty Ryan now singed!! :)

Can't help thinking we will get a big name loan signing at the end of proceedings. There are quite a few decent players warming benches, and the World cup is looming at the end of the season. So many of them will want to secure their place, but need first team PL football. We can offer that.
Joe Hart??

I admire the way you are taking all the credit, but this list has clearly been sneaked out of a grubby steel cabinet, somewhere in Rafa's office, which he updates daily from NSC!

Fifty percent of our new signings (i.e. Gross) were not mentioned anywhere before they joined. That should tell us something about the reliability of media reports.

Pretty sure Knockaert (arguably our best signing of recent years) wasn't mentioned at all in the lead up to his arrival.

I imagine the Albion were thrilled about that, as it must have ensured other clubs weren't put on his trail.

I've just this minute learned that Tammy Abraham's younger brother is called Timmy.

I can't even begin to tell you how much that fact pleases me

(Timmy is fifteen and on Fulham's books, for what it's worth)

His older brother is called Tummy, but he's a bit overweight, so doesn't play football

SUNDAY - ON OUR RADAR - a few tweaks and updates

(ps: thanks for all your kind words about my list making)

*New* Lois Diony A single report in L'Equipe about the 24 year old, £15m striker apparently insisting we're interested . But "We've not received any offers" reminds Djjon President. St Etienne (now managed by Oscar Garcia) apparently also interested. 2/10.

*New" Ola Toivonen The Sun have a couple of lines on this 30 year old Swedish international striker. Did a Sidwell against poor old Hugo Lloris last week. A bargain (for a striker) at £3m. 3/10.

Markus Suttner - It's that FC Ingolstadt 04 connection again. 30 year old Full back/CB. Originally Via a report in German paper "Kicker". Has "merit" says that Bozza and he normally knows. £1.75m bid says Daily Mail today (Sunday) - 7/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...Markus-Suttner

Kieran Gibbs Another left back. The Arse have him up for sale at £15m and are struggling for suitors. Albion (and a few others) are "looking into " but lets face it the price will have to tumble. 2/10 unless Wenger has a clearance sale.

Gianluca-Lapadula Scored 8 goals in SERIA A for Milan last season. 27 year old striker. "we've sent a delegation" to watch him says sketchy local news reports. And thats about it. So i'm only giving it 3/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...-Milan-Striker

James Troisi Another Oz international .Originally "Negotiations intensifying" and "looks set to join" says local proper Oz paper. But now new reports says Albion's move has "floundered" . Money of course. 3/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...ions-intensify

Simon Kjaer "readying a 7.5m bid" says Talk Sport - ie: they found the sauce as did NS user; Jamie The Seagull on Turkish sports site ; Fotomac. But really. Another centre back ? I'm giving it 3/10

https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...19-Aaron-Mooy/

Will Hughes - not *new* really as Albion have been sniffing around him for years. The Mail had a report last weekend saying we've opened bidding at £4m (as if !) but nothing since. He's in middle of u21s tournament. 3/10

World CUP WINNER - Josh Onomah - "wanted on loan" says The Sun but then how many loanees can we actually have (just 2) so who knows. The usual suspects (Hudds, Celtic) want him too. Surely post u20s hype and only 1 report so far so 4/10

Musa - (no change) Out of favour Leicester forward. NO, NOT THAT ONE. STILL ONLY His agent (Alarm bells already) orginally the source in er, "OwngoalNigeria" but now the Mail are brave and have run it. "Have asked about" they say.. Apparently he's £18m quid !!.. 2/10.

Ferland Mendy - Le Havre. No report since initial flurry which normally indicates guff. 21 year old French full back. Albion clearly eyeing up this position mind. 2/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...avre-left-back

Joe Gomez -Argus are keen. So something in this. Bleacher Report says today (Friday) "edging closer". 8/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...2948-Joe-Gomez

Tammy - Barber finally comes clean !! A rare public statement from the club about a potential signing. "Its no secret he's of interest to us" admitted PB. But everyone and his mother now wants him. At the u21s.. Still 5/10 i reckon
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...Tammy-Abraham/

Genki - Seems to have gone all quiet. still not going away. Nothing for days. And another winger 4/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...nki-Haraguchi/

Cafu - (no change) Quiet for a bit.. Was a fair amount of reports/guesses in big papers but then silence which indicates probably just a paper punt. Clearly a striker is on the cards but not this one ? 4/10
https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showth...hp?351221-Cafu

Maenpaa - Not sure of delay with this one. All signed, sealed and ...Presumably on holiday. Barber says they are still at it. 10/10
A.Another - Gross style signing out of the blue not rumoured anywhere. 10/10.

Long since Dropped from list as it was too long anyway: Macdonald, Snodgrass, Cairney.

Signed: Gross, *new* Ryan
New Contracts: Stephens, Sidwell, Bong, Maenpaa (TBC)
Gone: Stockdale, Pocognoli
For Sale Norwood.
For Loan Walton, Lua Lua, Manu, Ince , Towell, Hunt

Caveats caveats if you actually believe in any of this stuff...

Andy Naylor reminds us pushers of this gossipfest.
"Nothing in a lot of the names you're seeing".. And a certain @not-andy-naylor reminds us that "50% of our signings were not mentioned anywhere before signing. That should tell you a lot about reliablity of media reports".

And for reference here's PB singing strategy. "we don’t just have a single player on our list. We have a cluster of players of the same quality and that is how we work. This whole transfer window, as always, is very much a waiting game. People have to be patient.

And these words from TB about 2017/18. Its mostly his money after all:
"Money is spent every season at every single club. We have to strengthen, that goes without saying. But we’re not looking to spend huge amounts. We’ll do things on a gradual basis, as we have done. We have good players already, and we want to strengthen from that position."

Its going to be a long long summer.

Anyone missing - let me know. I NEED A SAUCE to include.
