OT - getting out of Brighton

Hello people, dont know the area outside Brighton that well and no doubt Brighton sea front is going to be mentally busy this weekend with tourist and day trippers. anyone know any good country pubs to escape to accessable by train or bus, or somewhere worth a visit for the day, proper beer/food is the main aim, if theres somewhere to swim nearby thats even better.

any ideas?

try juggs in kingston...get a train to lewes and walk, failing that the ram in firle with a longer walk from lewes or maybe even berwick....

Bramber has a few decent pubs and is scenic and all that, nice for a walk around the village if you're into that sorta thing.

Not sure about the food but I've always been a fan of the Anchor Inn at Barcombe Mills, north of Lewes. Take a credit card along and you can go on the rowing boats up the river. Superb.

Definitely no bus - the road is only just wide enough for one car. A cab from Lewes shouldn't be too much, £5-10 possibly.

Ditchlings pretty nice, whats Plumpton and Hassocks like for walks and pubs. I am thinking of going there.

You could always try further East and head for the Star at Norman's bay (between Eastbourne and Bexhill).
Obviously make sure you are on a train that stops at that station.
The pub is about an 8 minute walk North East of the Station and the seafront about 3 minutes to the South.

Ditchlings pretty nice, whats Plumpton and Hassocks like for walks and pubs. I am thinking of going there.

Plumptons mighty fine, you can walk from Brighton over the downs drop down and go the The Half Moon pub for dinner then walk back to Brighton, a nice day out mate !!

Don't forget about the lovely Falmer, village teas by the pond, wonderful.

If you were to choose Falmer for a cuppa wearing the stripes would go down very well

Arundel is a nice spot, walk along the river, The Black Rabbit pub, hire a motor boat for bit.

I'd agree on that one, whenever I pass through Arundel I always try to get down there for lunch and a beer, only a short taxi ride from the station

not much going on for the young ones though. nice place called butlers for lunch
