I don`t make the Law....Yes surely Schools should be responsible enough to decide.....perhaps in this case an Error has been made.

Maybe I should back up my previous short answer. The reason it would have been a no is because we don't allow her to watch 15 certs at home. Hell, we don't even allow her to watch some 12s - James Bond Casino Royale for example. The judgement on whether a child is mature enough to watch a certain film can only rest with the parents and I resent a teacher taking on that decision without at least some notification.

You sound like an old fashioned parent (compliment intended)...in my limited experience (my kids all older) most watch anything from young age.

As has already been said (as a parent) I believe they should have asked permission. I would have a quiet word with the teacher as they may believe that it is an important part of the subject that your daughter is studying and i would want to know the reasons for showing the film.
If you are not happy with the response, then see or write to the head saying that you think permission should have been sought. IMHO

Why is considering the cert of a film Victorian ? And yes, I don't allow my children to play video games that have a cert higher than their age.

The issue with the 15 film aside (because that does seen to have been a cock-up), would you have had an issue with your daughter watching a cert 12 if the teachers deemed it was beneficial to her education but like Casino Royale you personally do not deem it appropriate? My point being is where do you feel the judgement should lie? With the parent or the teacher? My wife is a teacher and this is a genuine question.

I'm a head master and I'm afraid the world is now a very unpleasant place. The majority of us older adults thought WE had it bad but I don't hold out much hope for the future now. Sorry to be negative. It's a pretty hopeless situation. I don't bother trying to lie to the children.

I don't want to appeal to ignorance but maybe the teacher simply didn't realise the dvd was a 15 and thought it was appropriate for the lesson. I don't believe that as I think the parents should have been consulted if there was a reasoned possibility that the content would have been distressing.
Back at school, I was shown Constantine in my RE class, my teacher took me aside and said I didn't need to watch the film because it depicted that suicide was a sin and a relative of mine had recently committed suicide. It was a little tough, but ultimately it's a film and I'm not religious so I didn't really mind, I did appreciate that my teacher was concerned about how I felt though. They could have asked the parents as well on the other hand.
