They have had four hours of Hurricane Force winds (the gusts) steady at Storm Force. It is a north wind.

Blown away!. A big story or is it just what they are used to? Don't know. All communication is cut off at the moment.

There's only about five people who live there.

Bloody BBC 5-Live weather forcasts ALWAYS kick off with Northern Oirland, the Outer Hebrides, northern Scotland and the frigging Shetlands regardless of the fact nobody there is listening, and you could fit the combined population into Southwick Leisure Centre anyway.

Winds me right up.

Yes, I've long thought that the weather forecasts should be delivered on a proportional level according to population level. The amount of time wasted rabbiting on about Scotland is simply ridiculous. They've got Radio Scotland if they want it in depth, why subject the rest of us to their lousy weather?

Kirkwall airport doesn't look to bad, there was snow on here yesterday.

London said that about Sussex after the Great Storm of 1987 when Sussex people did not turn up for work in Croydon etc.

Kirkwall: nice place for a holiday cottage. Sitting in the dark with a storm (blowing from the Arctic) outside ain't my idea of civilisation. Bloody wind: it means a new lot of lobster pots.

Had to be yesterday. It was still dark up there today at 8 when it is getting light down here.

yeah, but look at it from the meterologist point of view, the North West weather is far more interesting. Southwick will be a quite sunny or bit overcast in summer, mild with some wind or some rain in autumn, bit cold or if they're lucky snow in the winter.

I lived in the far north of Scotland for two and a half years and 60-70mph winds were so common they barely warranted a mention. It topped 100mph a few times while I was living there.
