Orient train travel today.

Victoria tube station is a NIGHTMARE at the moment. They are just starting work to replece three escalators and rush hour it is exteremeltyprone to getting shut to ease congestion - was yesterday at 7.30 PM!!!!

So try and avoid if all possible

-------------------------------------------------

From London Underground website

Work essential to meet growing demand at one of London's busiest stations. Work to be completed ahead of the 2012 Games.

It is crucial we do this escalator work as part of modernising and enlarging the station

Howard Collins, LU's Chief Operating Officer
Transport for London (TfL) will aim to keep disruption to a minimum but passengers advised to use alternative stations where possible and buy tickets or Oyster pay as you go before coming to the station.

London Underground (LU) will start refurbishing the 42-year-old escalators in the main ticket hall at Victoria Tube station from Monday 31 January.

The station is undergoing a £700m investment to redevelop it to cope with an increasing number of passengers.

The works are essential as passenger numbers at the station - one of London's busiest - are expected to rise from the current 80 million a year to nearly 100 million a year by 2016.

The refurbishment is timed to be complete before the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games, which will also increase demand.

While the works are currently scheduled until early 2012, LU is actively working to reduce the time required for the works to minimise the disruption.

Bank has escalator replacement works as well. Not sure if they effect getting on to the central line or just changing to the central line but it is worth bearing in mind. Whichever way you go it is only a 20 minute journey so no biggie.

As regards FCC direct to London Bridge vs Southern trains changing at EC they take exactly the same amount of time. So it makes little or no difference, except that FCC trains are a bit shit (although the journey is less than hour so it can't really effect you that much).

FCC trains aare always late into LB because they pay the lowest passing charges, and access to the station is based on passing charges. (ie fees paid by the TOCs for access)

If anyone going to the game is trying to get through Victoria at 7.30pm, I'll wager they are going to miss the game

Seriously though, all this scaremongering about Victoria turned out to be rubbish yesterday and this morning. I went through the tube about 5.45 last night and 7.45 this morning and it was no different to any other day.

Did not know that. Still though that does not really effect this journey that much.

It's sorted.

16.24 to London Bridge....little tube up to liverpool street, few drinks and some food around L Street and then central onto Leyton.

Then either 22.26 or 22.42 from L Bridge back to brighton....sorted!

My god some people on here flap over travel don't they? Train travel in particular. If really is not hard! I presume that most of the people who ask nonsense questions with obvious answers about train travel are youngsters with no or limited experience travelling!

Or just want to make sure from people who use the tube everyday whcih ways best.

I travel all over the world for work monthly but still best to make sure and see what people have to say instead of relying on crap like rail enquires or being stuck for an hour just because I didnt ask.

Well, if I can FIGHT my way through the MAZE that is the central line then yes, yes I will CW. Fingers crossed eh?

Be sure to take a TFL leaflet and Fodors 'Guide to the East End' in case you run into problems. Here is a tip, most streets are known to have their name at each end and where they intersect with other streets. Failing that there will be many caring souls dressed in suits adorned with pearls who can help you on your way.

Is the correct answer. I don't care how good Victoria is supposed to be I would avoid it in any case. The escalator work at Bank looks annoying so an alternative is to take the Jubilee line to Stratford then Central to Leyton but that tube journey takes 10 mins longer.

City Thames Link

City Thamas link to Farringdon, central line to Liverpool street, a few drinks in the The Kings Stores then back on the central line to the game.

On the way back get off at Bank and then Northern line down to London Bridge.
