Ok, if I had told you before the 2nd leg of the palace game that:

1 We will lose to palace
2 Gus would be sacked messily
3 We will appoint a man with one season as a manager, in Israel, and had never played or coached in England
4 Our player of the year would get injured, sulk and leave
5 One of our 2 regular scorers will be injured a lot
6 The other will be sold
7 Orlandi will hardly play
8 Lopez will be a shadow of his former self
9 Buckley will be injured a lot
10 CMS will not be fit for the whole season
11 Hoskins will not be fit for the whole season
12 AEA will be sold
13 Wayne Bridge will leave
14 We will only sign 3 players on permanent contracts and they would be a lower league left back and 2 midfielders
15 Leicester, QPR, Reading, Forest will spend millions
16 Development squad players will feature heavily in pretty much every game

What position would you have guessed we would finish this season?

Be honest!!

Really good question mid table based on this

I think many people did not realise the carnage that a certain ex manager left behind so well done Oscar, magnificent achievement to get us in this position.

Not top six, still maybe have confidence in us to be top ten.

Excellent OP and pretty much sums up my feelings about how WELL we have done this season.

I tell you what if you had also told me, that we go into the last game with a chance to get in the playoffs I would have BITTEN your hand off (metaphorically speaking of course)

1st to 7th
Things' always happen in football and to leave out many positives doesn't give a balanced view ie Upson & TK staying and marshalling a mean defence
A finish +/- 3 places of the previous can always be a reasonable expectation so 8th or lower is underachievement

All good points. Haven't been at all disappointed with how things have gone this season anyway, but when you consider those points it just underlines what a good job the management, sorry coaching, team have done. Good luck Donny today.

Good post.
You could add to that list that our main signing Agustien has been a massive disappointment and hardly played at all.

I would say top 10 is a very good achievement by Garcia. I do wish he had a bit more personality at times in interviews but he must be doing a decent job behind the scenes. It could be though that Gus underachieved last year by not getting us up with arguably a much stronger squad. Another factor is that the division is probably weaker this season so overall top 10.

It is a very good opening post indeed. Things happen in football and the majority of what you have listed are unfortunate and beyond our control. However, managerial appointments and player signings are not, so whilst I hear what you are saying and the point is very well made, this does not take into account the style of football and tactics generally, which generally for me have been disappointing.
