"One Club, One Ambition"

Plastered all over the new club shop. Most people seemed to take the ambition as being to reach the Premier League, which might explain all the suicidal reactions and angered thoughts as to the lack of new signings with Clayton going to Middlesbrough instead.

But have the club actually stated explicitly what the ambition is? Maybe the fans who assumed it was promotion have got it all wrong. It could mean:

  • Being the only Championship club to comply with FFP
  • Losing the majority of our "new" fans who end up bored of mid table football
  • Avoiding relegation to League One
  • Setting a record for number of managers lost in post season resignations
  • Selling the most expensive pint of Harvey's in the UK

I must admit , i did think it was a little ironic when i saw that in the club shop as Ulloa went out the door.

I swear some people must think we are Man United/Man City/ Chelsea.

It's a bloody roller-coaster, it always has been and always will be.

It certainly is.

But perhaps the club should at least try and keep a lid on expectations seeing as some of our fans are clearly too thick to notice themselves. Not good for season ticket renewals or sales, but at least it would stop the effigies of Paul Barber and David Burke I saw being erected in Preston Park earlier

Doesn't always have to be. We finally got the level playing field we craved for years. Ambition should be to progress ever upwards on the playing side. Currently the reverse is happening. club needs to re-focus its eye on the ball which is the on-field activity. IMHO, like.

They don't help themselves with the frequent spouting of the phrase "Premier League Ready".

Somebody with a degree and no in depth knowledge of the Albion, has been paid to come up with a club slogan. We already have one.......Stand or Fall. Probably from the same firm that came up with the Dolphins as a club name.

He raises some good points though, doesn't he?

If we don't compete in the transfer market then we will slip a bit and that will result in lower attendances as the more fair weather supports find other things to do on a Saturday afternoon.

It's not the end of the world as we know it, but people should be able to criticize certain aspects of the club without being branded a 'bed wetter' or 'dull'.

Looks like that is 5 separate ambitions not one, but who knows.

The squad that Poyet put together has disappeared now. That squad got us to within an Ankergren howler of the Premiership. I'd be amazed if anyone could argue our team has improved since then.

*awaits a flurry of posts claiming we're actually much better now*

But the squad that was put together when Poyet was here cost us 15m quid per annum more than our income. There is the conundrum. Whilst other clubs appear to want to gamble, we do not. If some other clubs come along and pinch our transfer targets because they want to pay them more money, then there is not a lot we can do about it, other than up our offer, which we are not going to do.

It does not mean the club lacks ambition - it means that we are going to play by the rules and until the playing field is levelled a bit then get used to it, as this could be the way it will be for a while.

You can't go forwards every year though. As long as we are progressing, on average, over several seasons then we are doing ok. Why the big rush anyway? The best we can ever realistically expect is to get promoted and become a mid table Premiership club who may get near a cup win once a decade. If we wanted to become a top club that boat sailed some time in the 90s when all the money came into football.

We're not progressing tho, are we. We capitulated to a so-so Palace side two seasons ago, and we didn't REALLY deserve a play-off place last season, seeing as how we rarely played anything like the part. This season will will be infinitely worse, bottom half of mid-table tops. Can't get by forever on a wing and a prayer and not buying in quality players.

You could argue we went backwards last season.

Less points, 2 places lower and handed are arses in the play offs.

It's the club that keeps going on about the prem not the fans. So when the club mentions it, the fans get excited. Then we see who's coming in and realize something doesn't quite add up....In the meantime everything keeps going up and up....Buy shirts, buy beer, buy pies, buy season tickets, spend spend spend,,,,,,and we will sell sell sell and replace with not a lot......atm anyway.
