Since this thread is about bidets, I'm surprised how many men have answered. Surely if they are used as originally intended, they are redundant most of the month?

When I was younger we had a bidet. We used to leave it full of water for the dog.

When I lived in Italy, I had a plastic bidet in the shower room.

It was unconnected to any water supply or drainage system and served as a very adequate place to wash socks and pants in.

Because water was a difficult commodity to get to the top part of a medieval hill-town, the house had no bath and mains water was supplied to the tank in the attic only three days a week.

And we whinge about hosepipe bans.
