Following on from the fantastic recent thread looking for an employee, I thought I'd put myself about on here to see if anyone can help!!!

I've worked in customer services all my life - 9 years in Pub management, followed by working in a call centre environment for the past 4 years. I've worked for 2 of the biggest local utility suppliers - one I got made redundant from in Feb, and the other I am currently on a temp contract until May. Also, I've done a little bit of work in Debt Recovery - not fun, but because of my customer service approach I found I was fairly effective at it!!

I'm hard working, enthusiastic and committed, always prepared to put extra hours in when I can, and I like to know the insides and out of the job I do. I've been in training and development roles in the past in the pub trade - rolling out induction training, and developing training packages to deliver health and safety,

I do suffer from seizures (an illness called Non Epileptic Attack Disorder), and although it is partially controlled, it does put me out of action from time to time. That said, I'm looking to work for a company that is happy to work with me on that, as I'm working with my specialist to deal it!!

I'm a bit fed up of working for agencies (which I have been doing for the past couple of years), and I'm looking for a permanent, well paid ish (to work in Brighton I'd be looking for minimum £16k+) job!!! I suppose what I'm asking is this - anyone on here taking anyone on, or know of anywhere that is? I've applied on all the usual job websites and approached the agencies, but I thought if I put myself about on here, you never know your luck!!!!

Thanks for reading,
Pete

Good luck - I've just been made redundant and the boredom of being out of work ( I hate the phrase unemployed ) is crap.

Hope you get something soon.

PS - given your location, would the debt collector be Marlin by chance ?

Ha! No, the other one round the corner - however Marlin have been the one that the agencies are pushing - I'm not a fussy man, but I'm giving them a wide berth....

I wouldn't dismiss them as a possibility - whenever I've been there they've been a nice bunch. Head of Collections is a through and through Albion fan as well.

If I had a job going, I would certainly invite you in for a chat after reading your post. It reads well.

Are you sure you've got no staff that are begging to be sacked?!?! :D

I ain't a nice thing. I'm self employed but going to have to look for something part time to top up my money now. I'm not looking forward to this for the simple reason, it's not easy.

Maybe worth checking out Southern Water employment opportunities via the Southern Water website? Has a call centre at Falmer - five minutes walk from Dicks Bar for lunch! - and main HQ at Durrington. Worked on a contract there and seem to me to be decent employers.

Gah! Not much point in me suggesting EDF Energy then cos you'll have doubtless worked there also. SSE electric company maybe? They got offices in Havant if memory serves.

Best of British, Worthingite.

I was, as some know, a staff nurse for 16 years, and should have got out two years beforehand at least. In the end i was sacked, which I asked for, and now am about to be self-employed, and nothing to do with nursing.

Good luck in finding a job quickly mate otherwise welcome to Ian Duncan Smiths world where you are treated like scum and exploited for free labour at poundland/Asda etc. God help you if you remain on the dole for longer than a year.

There are plenty of jobs out there, just most of them are minimum wage, or working in " care ", either that or they are wonderfully well paid however,I neglected to do an Accountancy degree or any degree in fact, so I'm stuffed.

Thank you. The most humbling and equally humiliating experience of my life was last week when I signed on for the first time. Awful degrading experience and I really feel for anyone that has had to do it for any length of time.

I hope you're right - 100 applications and counting so far.

Hopefully Worthingite will get a job ASAP given he's taken the initiative to post on here !

It is very much degrading and until you go through the process yourself you cannot really grasp how degrading it is. Believe me since the Tories have taken over it has got a lot worse. Watch out for the thousands of bogus jobs out there and make sure you do absolutely everything that is required. Staff at the job centre will happily sanction you.

I walked in one the other day and its just full of G4S people patrolling about. Thank god i'm not a regular.

The answer MAY be in the thread above...the budget had completely changed the way pensions are to be handled and as such Hargreaves Lansdown shares are up 8% and they and the like will need loads of IFA's. This self employed type role may suit better your need for out of action time, end reliance on others to determine your destiny & in a few years prove much more lucrative
