Other than betting it will be a soggy, miserable disaster has anyone got any tips on how to make a bit of cash from the upcoming sporting extravaganza by way of a wager or two?

Team GB medal haul maybe?

I'd take anything over 3/1 on Yohan Blake to win the 100m.

100m winning time to be between 9.80 and 9.89 seconds @4/1 with Ladbrokes.

That's VERY attractive.

Potentially, Bolt, Blake, Gay and Gatlin could all go under 9.80, but those times they've set have all been in perfect conditions. A tiny headwind or a bit of rain and 9.80-9.89 looks very likely.

Do you have the odds for the other time intervals, please?

Blake to win 200m, Ennis to win heptathlon, Farah to win 10,000m, Kellie Wells to win 100m hurdles, Christian Taylor to win triple jump. Bet singles, Doubles, trebles and an acca of all coming in. You will definitely come out in profit.

Blake won't win the 200m unless Bolt pulls up lame. He could beat him in the 100m, but not in the 2. No chance.

I know f all about athletics but I thought Bolt was pretty much untouchable in the 100m too. No?

I personally think Blake will do the double.

We will see.....

Bolt is an utter beast, and from 80m his sheer strength tends to take him away from the field. The margins are SO fine in the hundred though, that a little stumble at the start, for example, would be enough to see Blake or Gatlin pip him. Blake has run faster (by 0.01 seconds!) than Bolt this year.

In the 200m though (barring injury or disqualification) nobody will be close to him. He is just too strong.

Blake double must be what? 12/1?

Lump on then.

(I'm tempted myself - but only on the basis that Bolt might be slightly more injured than they are letting on. If he's fit he is GUARANTEED to win the 200m, at the very least).

Blake beat Bolt in both the 100m and 200m in the Jamaican trials. Not saying he'll do it again but he's certainly capable of it and Bolt is far from being as formidable as he once was.

I don't think Bolt was fully fit at those trials. It is that doubt, that tells me a bet on Blake is worth considering, if the odds are right.

He didn't seem it. Was a very good documentary on the bloke a few days ago late at night, and it seems like he hasn't actually been fully fit for a couple of years. This wasn't actually said outright, but you could sense it.

As for the odds you asked about earlier, oddschecker is your best bet. I believe 9.70-9.79 was around 2/1, and IMO the winning time is absolutely NAILED ON to be between 9.70 and 9.89, and with both of those odds combined you're still above evens (if my maths is correct). A much better bet than Ennis, Bolt, or so on singles because one bad event for Ennis (Javelin most likely), or a false start for Bolt and your moneys gone. As you say, conditions will be far from perfect knowing English weather, so can't see them going quicker than 9.70, and one of Bolt or Blake will go under 9.89 for sure.

EDIT: 9.70-9.79 is 9.4 with Corals, not ladbrokes. Here's the link for you: Olympic Athletics - Mens 100m Winning Time Betting Odds | Olympic Athletics - Mens Betting

This.

I am starting to really look forward to seeing an inform Blake up against Bolt in the 100m and 200m. I'm not a huge track and field fan since the Ben Johnson days and I didn't know who Blake was until he beat Bolt in the Jamaican Olympic trials. I thought Bolt only had to avoid a false start to win double gold in London. Then caught some of the Bolt programme on the BBC the other night and discovered Blake is his training partner and has been living in the shadow of Bolt all this time.

Not really 'all this time'. Blake is only 22.

If Bolt is anything less than 100% over either distance then Blake beats him. Look at Blake's PB over the longer sprint. No more than one tenth slower than Bolt.

Just looked at the odds. No value in backing EITHER of them tbh. I've just placed a small wager on GATLIN to win the 100m @18/1
