Oldham expect to unveil a new chairman on Monday together with plans that will secure the club's future.
Latics officials have been working frantically to prevent the club from folding ever since owner Chris Moore's close-season announcement that he could no longer bankroll a club that was losing £50,000 a week.
Manchester-based businessman Barry Chaytow will be installed as chairman after Moore agreed to hand over his 95% shareholding for a fee of £1.
"We sent our survival document to Mr Moore and discussed with him the proposals it contained throughout the night," club marketing manager Sean Jarvis told the Manchester Evening News.
"There are still one or two minor points to be agreed, but we are now very hopeful that an agreement in principle will be reached.
"The legal documents can then be signed and we should be in a position to officially announce our new chairman."
