ANGER AT OLDHAM OWNER AS RESCUE PLAN FAILS

Oldham's staff are planning to confront owner Chris Moore after he pulled the plug on a survival plan for the Second Division crisis club.

Players and administration staff have not paid for six weeks and Moore pulled out of the rescue deal because it would have involved paying their salaries.

Now staff intend to take the matter to Moore himself by travelling to his Oxford business headquarters to demand answers.

The Latics are in serious financial trouble after Moore refused to carry on financing the club's weekly £50,000 losses out of his own pocket.

Boss Iain Dowie is contemplating his own future but remains helpless as his out-of-contract squad is now free to walk away from the club.

Marketing manager Sean Jarvis and club accountant Neil Joy have been working frantically behind the scenes in an effort to save the club.

"Having been led to believe that transfer of ownership of the club would have taken place (on Monday), Neil Joy and Sean Jarvis have received communication from club owner Chris Moore to the effect that he wanted to amend the deal as agreed on Friday afternoon," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Further conditions imposed by Mr Moore would result in staff remaining unpaid and both Neil Joy and Sean Jarvis felt that this new restriction was unacceptable."

Joy added: "Payment of club staff is crucial to the short-term survival plan that has been constructed as the club effectively has two weeks to convince the Football League that it is able to fulfil the fixture obligations for the 2003-04 season.

"It is unfair to expect staff, who have been unpaid for over six weeks, to continue to work without pay in what will be an extremely busy period during which they are unable to obtain alternative sources of income."

Press officer Dan Shaw said: "We will be travelling down to Oxford today to demand answers off Mr Moore.

"We are now entering the seventh week unpaid and there will be about 20 people making the trip to his headquarters based in Oxford."

Moore was unavailable for comment.

Poor old Oldham, although they have amongst the most miserable fans in the league they don't deserve this.
