That was a crazy day. West coast line was closed so took about 5 trains each way. And I struggled around on the ice and snow on crutches after a knee op. Why? Why did I do that?

That’s not a Northern thing though. I’ve always had mushy peas with fish and chips even when I was a suverner. Chips and gravy at Hartlepool is a whole different ball game.

Blimey, it’s going to take a while to remember all the southern fish and chip shops I’ve been to ! Mostly in Mid Sussex as a kid I suppose. Probably a bit northern for Brightonians such as your self ?
Having read the thread I don't sense a massive amount of sympathy for their fans.
On a par with comments after the sinking of the Titanic in Ye Eveninge Arguss of the time:
"Did you know that more than 90% of an iceberg is actually below the water line?
The north Atlantic has lost a considerable amount of its fish species in the last 100 years.
I prefer to take my vacations somewhere closer to the equator; Egypt perhaps."
