Old, older, oldest programmes

Following on from me old Goldstone photos' thread. I got 3 old programmes' in me birthday package; one is home v Scunthorpe 25th March 1967, one is v Fulham, 10th March '71 and the last v Man. City may 7th '83. I'm facinated by these and wondered, with our heritage some of you guys must have older ones. So, what's your oldest programme and were you there?

I have, sitting proudly in a frame on top of the filing cabinet in the study, the programme for Brighton and Hove Albion v Torquay United, 12 April 1967. The first match I ever went to (thanks, Dad!). Got some older ones, but not Albion matches.

The oldest program I have is actually a Reading vs Brighton & Hove Albion, dated 1947.

Not sure about the oldest home programme I have, probably early 50's as that was when my Granddad started his collection.

Oldest surviving programme in my collection Feb 18th 1967 4th round cup tie against Chelsea. Had earlier ones but they disappeared when moving to Hove in 1966.Queued up on a Saturday morning age 10 with my brother outside the goldstone for the cup tickets and also had to pay for the reserve game against Notts County the same day in order to purchase the Chelsea cup tickets , as even in those days the club was trying to squeeze as much money out of the fans from a plum tie(Official attendance for reserve game was about 21000- a record at the time, but I only think about 5000(tho' not sure) stayed to watch the game.I think Chelsea ended up in the Final that year.

Oldest Home programme: 1 September 1951 v Bournemouth

Oldest Away: 16 October 1948 v Crystal Palace

Make sure you all get down to the Collectors & Historians Society Collectors Fair on Sunday 22nd November at Withdean (the day after the Leeds game).

There will be loads of great stuff on show and the auction always throws up some really interesting items. Last year there was a programme from 1923 which went for around £240 I think.

If you want to JOIN the Collectors and Historians Society, let me know.

Get involved.

In a pile of football shirts
Over the years I've aquired several bundles of programs which have cropped up at superwifes auctions, got loads from the 50s and 60s. Don't think many are pre 1950, make for intersting reading, the adverts, players names, prices, good reads in the smallest room.

Oldest programme that I have is away to Millwall in December 1912. I wasn't there. It includes Charlie Webb (star of the 1910 Charity Sheild victory over Aston Villa) on the team sheet.

Oldest home programme that I have is against Portsmouth in April 1944. I wasn't at that one either.

The older programmes are a fascinating insight into a very different world (even the adverts).
