The corner quietly rusting
A carved oak table,
Tells a tale
Of times when Kings and queens sipped wine from goblets gold,
And the brave would lead their ladies from out the room
to arbours cool.
A time of valour, and legends born
A time when honour meant much more to a man than life
And the days knew only strife to tell right from wrong
Through lance and sword.

Why, why can we never be sure till we die
Or have killed for an answer,
Why, why, do we suffer eachrace to believe
That no race has been grander
It seems because through time and space
Though names may change each face retains the mark it wore.

A dusty table
Musty smells
Tarnished silver lies discarded upon the floor
Only feeble light descends through a film of grey.
That scars the panes.
Gone the carving,
And those who left their mark,
Gone the Kings and queens now only the rats hold sway
And the week must die according to nature's law
As old as they.

Title artist album and year please

Very early 70's and I will point out when originally released I was 11 years old but into music well ahead of my years at the time.

You would have got this lot on OGWT not TOTP in the early years.

A band who have only, relatively recently split-up (although never officially so they could be back as if they have never been away).

The one & only Genesis, great band.

Time Table from the Foxtrot album. Peter Gabriel on lead vocals. 1972 on Virgin Records. I've got the CD from 1985 on Charisma. P

Absolutely correct (Except its original release was on the Famous Charisma Label not Virgin, Virgin bought FCL just before the owner died. ) just listened to the album for the first time in a long time and had forgotten just how superb that track is (In fact the whole album).

Going through me Genesis collection from the first Album I bought (1971 in a bargain box, From Genesis to Revelation, the original got nicked some years back when I was a rock DJ out the back of a van, so relying on the copies these days!) which then lead me to find out more of this outfit, been a fan ever since of everything they have ever done.

The most original band this country has ever produced only slightly tarnished by PC's commerciality of the 80's.

===The edit bit

Thought I had better point out before some bright spark does that FGTR was not released in 71 its when I bought it.

My copy says

1972 Virgin Records Ltd. 1985 Charisma Records Ltd.

If what you say is true Marvin, I want my money back or I'll sue.

I liked them although there was a time in the late 80s / early 90s when PC was on TV or in the press every day which kind of turned everyone against them.

Genesis signed to Famous Charisma in 1970 all albums up to 1986 when the founder of FCL Tony Stratton Smith sold the label to his distributor Virgin Records. TSS died in 1987

I hate Genesis. Largely because my wanky brother liked 'em so it stood to reason...

Should this not be moved to the irational hates thread?

What could be more rational? Anyway, I hate Phil Collins so much that when that rumour went round about him saving the Albion, I had to seriously consider whether that would be something I could stomach. Thank goodness I never had to choose.

Genesizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Whooah!! Deja vu. When was that rumour flying about? I remember some connection between Albion and Phil Collins when I was quite young, but I have always assumed it was a very surreal dream!!!!
