First time out running this year in just a t-shirt this morning – absolute scorcher event at 6am! Probably not the best time to embark on an hour of negative spits at under 8/min mile pace, but that's what I ended up doing. Even though I was a hot sweaty mess at the end of it, having some structure to a run – instead of merely plodding – made a nice change :lolol:

Thanks - I'm going to commit.

As an existing premium member, they come in at £61.02 and I have a 10% discount code due to the late delivery of my Wildhorse 6 trail shoes, so the price is pretty compelling to give them a go.

Remember the knee!

Curious what you wear the rest of the time!

On my bottom half, I wear shorts all year round, I literally do not own anything else.

On my top half, I have vests, short-sleeved t-shirts and long-sleeved t-shirts. On the coldest of days I'll wear one of the long-sleeved tops but with a compression layer below. That's as much "warmth" as I do!

I've mainly been in short-sleeves and vests for a couple of months now!

I’m a hot sweaty mess at any pace and any temperature. I certainly feel more flexible in warmer weather.

Remember the knee!

Difficult to forget!

I may not get to use the shoes for a wee while, but I'll have them there for when I'm up to trying some speed again.

I'm interested to see how I feel, mentally, when wearing them. My Zoom Fly 3s are my "fast shoes" but, like Vaporflys, they are completely different to the flatter shoes, with a big stack height. But when I wear them, I expect to be able to run faster.

I should've been more specific – just a t-shirt ON TOP! I've been in long sleeves (and normally gloves) since Autumn, I think!

Question for the coach Artie Fufkin

Do I wear Vaporfly Next for my mile on tarmac or racing flats? I’m edging to the flats as they are the magic shoes but will try the Vaporfly out on some 400m intervals tomorrow. Every second counts.

Hey Gaffer, I would go with what you "feel" gives you a racing edge in the shorter distances. I don't own a pair of racing flats as I've never raced on a track or under 5k so I'm not much help although I'd love to do more track work one day. Unfortunately the one track that's closest to me isn't particularly accessible.

I would say though that there's a reason a lot of college middle distance athletes, particularly in the US, now opt to race on the track in the Next %'s rather than flats or track spikes even, which sounds a bit crazy. Studies have shown the combination of the energy return from the Next %'s carbon fibre plate and high stack height to propel you forward, the midsole foam contributing to better running economy and the shoe's light weight does bring about a significant increase in speed endurance, even in the shorter distances.

Racing flats are super light and responsive so they probably "feel" nice and fast but I'm not sure what their other aspects help bring about an improvement in performance. A minimal or low drop shoe can help runners get up onto their forefoot but if we're not a forefoot runner that can cause a few issues.

It would be really interesting to see how you get on with the 400m intervals with the NEXT %'s vs your racing flats.

Oh no - you’ve lost my 5k (21:10, 72%) from Saturday which at least puts me ahead of GNTW on time.

Apologies. 4 months off alcohol ended last week. Time keeping all over the place.

Letter from London Marathon yesterday indicated there was a good chance of the rearranged October date not happening, given the situation. Chances are, IMO, that Brighton will probably go the same way.

Ironman Wales still not cancelled though :lolol:

Aye carumba. Entered my customary malaise of "alcohol is the only thing that makes me happy" last night. Woke up feeling glum about that, then went for a brief run and felt...not marvellous, but as close as it gets. In weather like this you dunnae have to do much to get the endorphins spunking.

Fair play to everyone for the excellent above times. In awe, as ever.

I had an early (even for me) start this morning and it was bloody beautiful out there. Managed to take in a bit of the beach AND the Downs (or close enough) as part of an 8-miler. Bit of a scorcher out there now

I need to get out today but it’s way too hot, but if I leave it too long I’ll be on the streets for the 8pm clapping - embarrassing

You can go after the clap. Sunset isn't until 20:53, and you'd have another 40 minutes or so of fading light from there. Should be a nice temperature too.

Strangely for someone who is relatively fair-skinned, may have a touch of ginger when I grow a beard and would probably choose 18 degrees with a light breeze as my ideal temperature, I actually quite enjoy running in the heat, and as a non-racer I don't have to worry about scorchio event days!

In other news, I might stop paying silly money for running shoes, and just run in Crocs (old story, but still funny/interesting): https://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2017/5/11/15624758/teen-runs-marathon-in-crocs-utah-family
