Pretty sure I fractured a rib on the worst of my three falls on Saturday morning.

Moving much, sneezing, coughing, laughing and moving in bed all REALLY hurt. Additionally one of the ribs on my right side, which is where I landed on the rocky chalk stuff, feels noticeably bigger than the others now.

Somehow I managed five miles yesterday - the first 50 metres were agony with every step and breath I took, but I found a short shuffling stride length and by shallow breaths, it wasn't too bad.

Been off for 10 days with a calf strain (I think) after running more than usual in January (only 60 miles or so). Feels okay now but I guess the advice is to really ease back in to it eh?

As you say. Roller, stretching, warm up, cool down and stop if it niggles. Good luck.

Very sensible Ninja. Your approach to training is impeccable.

It was a bit tough last night though, seeing everything posted on Strava. I wanted to get out there and show the world something, but I maintained composure!

An impromptu fast-paced couple of miles this morning as I chased Bobkin Jnr to school on his bike (they've got Bikeability (cycling proficiency in old money) this week). Quite enjoyable but knackering!

I remember miserably failing the cycling proficiency at school, I must have been 10/11 and I had no balance at all. I crashed into a tree at one point and was nowhere close to making it through the cones. :lolol: 20 years later I got myself a proper road bike and I reckon I'd humiliate all the 10 year olds with my bike control now!

Absolutely it is - and to make sure you're doing plenty of calf raises during your warm up and cool down, probably a few of them between runs as well. Just to get that strength in the calves so you don't feel them when you're running. I've been running 6 years now and one thing I've noticed is that the little niggles like calves and hamstrings haven't bothered me as much as the time has gone on because my body has become used to the strains and familiar with being worked. In my experience, any step up in milage brings with it an inevitable niggle somewhere in your body and it's just a question of building up your tolerance to the niggle (Daniel Sturridge take note!) and knowing how to get through it.

And yet, you were out and about putting in more miles the following day! I'm not sure whether to say bravo, or hit you with a facepalm smiley!

The thought was "let's see what hurts", and after a few strides it became apparent that any time my foot hit the floor and/or I breathed it was horrible. But once I reached the soft squidgy grass/mud, things eased up a bit and I kept to short strides at a modest pace, the pain remained, but was manageable.

It certainly hurt more in bed last night every time I tried to move, where I had a shit sleep, and whenever I try to get up from the sofa.

I'm on a 10-day run streak - I can't take a day off now!

I would be very pleased with the 10 day streak and rest yourself to prevent longer term damage to all of your body parts!

Wow, it sounds like this storm really did wipe out everyone's running for the weekend. Kudos to those who did make it out (or maybe "WTF were you doing" is more appropriate)

For once I was the one with the decent weather. It was still below freezing all weekend, but I'm fine with that if it's not too windy and there's no precipitation. I did a 26k long run yesterday at my usual "faster than I should be going" pace. It was one of those days where the entire Toronto running community seemed to have decided to run on the trail along the waterfront. I always enjoy giving other runners a wave or a knowing nod, and I saw a fair few people I know. Obviously the last 10k was with my RunTOBeer group, ending with some well earnt refreshments at yet another new brewery which has popped up in town.

I finally got myself out and about for a nice run at lunch time today, popping over to the Keep (the Amex would have been slightly too far) and then back via Moulescoomb and the path through the trees between The Avenue and Eastbourne Road before running back via Elm Grove. A nice 7.31 mile loop in 63 minutes flat. The wind isn't TOO bad, it is quite dramatic when it whips up and there was a nice downpour at one point. I felt pretty good despite the elevation gain in the final half of the route.

Hi all, been a while since I posted as my life got a bit turned upside down back in October/November and had a lot of shit to deal with since so I've not been posting but I ran the Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon just over a week ago in a new PB (by over 13 mins) of 1:48:49. Running is the only thing keeping me sane at the moment so glad to see at least that my efforts are bearing fruit. Struggling with a few niggles in the last few days but am training hard for my first ever full marathon in Brighton (got to come home for my first) in April so am hoping to do myself justice. I'm in the North Stand Chat Strava group and enjoying trying to work out who's who!

Tough luck with the upheaval. Running is certainly a way to cope with such times. A distraction and focus that gives mental and physical strength to help deal with the stress.

On top of that I have your PB to add to the table! Don’t overdo it and we’ll see you in Preston Park at Guinness Boy ‘s 2020 meeting point.

Wise words boss. And, yes, let's all meet in the right place this year :lolol:

Since you're going to be updating the table, I don't feel so bad being very late to report my new SB from Saturday, 20:28.

With sub-20 now being in reach I was doing some research (aka Googling) on the effects of weight loss. Seems to be about 2 seconds per mile per lbs. Hopefully that's the motivation I need to shift about half a stone!

Good running. Found you on Strava and impressed with your progressive mile splits 6:48 6:46 6:31. Suggests you have more to offer.

I have first 2020 5K on Saturday with a club race at Preston Park Parkrun but 11 days off running will slow me enough to keep the Vaporfly in the box.
Don't want to wear them without a trial run, don't want to get them wet and dirty on the first outing and can't risk the shame of being overtaken wearing them.
The lighter magic yellow Asic Hyperspeed 6 will get another outing.

Sorry to hear it fella - I hope things are settling down in your personal life. Running is the greatest distraction of them all, but try not to overdo it and rule yourself out for a long period of time. That'll just compound things. All the best chap.

According to Strava, Jacob's Ladder is actually the section I ran yesterday which links The Avenue with Jevington Drive. Google confirms it - so the steps which link Warren Road with Bevendean must be something else and my mum was wrong this whole time!

I notice from the table that we have the young big nuts topping the AGs. On Saturday a 21:34 for me will temporarily put me in AG leadership position and edge out Simgull. Storm allowing.

That's the aim but 12 days off may hit me. In swimming we trust.

EDIT Just see PP Arena day was cancelled weeks ago. Might see some of you at Hove park instead.

I am predicting an official time of 21:36 for you at Hove Park, no matter what your watch says . The fact that Mrs Simgull is Run Director on Saturday is entirely coincidence. #Bedgeburynotforgotten

Shoe doping and bribing the officials. I'm starting to wonder if knocky1 has links to Russia.
