Morning all, a great weekend of running. I even made it out on Sunday for a few miles along the Downslink, which was packed with Run Brighton groups on a training run.

Glad to be back

Mrs FP has missed the last couple of Park Runs to do extra shifts at the hospital - but yesterday ran from the RSCH, to the County Ground in Hove, to meet me & Jnr after cricket training.
She did it in 33 mins which I thought was amazing for such a newbie to running!

Good work over the weekend everyone. Congrats on the 5k PB Ninja Elephant . You're setting me a target for later in the year :p

We had about 20cm of snow on Saturday, so my Sunday long run had some tricky footing in places. Thankfully they're pretty good at clearing the pavements here, you just have to make sure you stick to main roads. It was certainly a lot easier with the snow than it was with the sheet ice last Sunday (I managed to stay on my feet this time). The -12C windchill kept me nice and alert, and also made my eyes water!

I managed just under 20k in the end at a pretty fast pace. Happy with how the training is going so far. I'm really feeling it this morning though. All those constant stability adjustments on the snow definitely gave me more of a workout than a normal run.

Thanks for providing the link. I recognise many of those names, some of whom I've been chasing (without much success) since 1988. Even more scary there seem to be quite a few newbies in the category - like you, freshly-minted old gits (spot the slight contradiction there). Good performance and should make your next Parkrun, on firm ground, a stroll in the park.

Michael Miller is just behind me on Parkrun but in front if you add a mile and hills. I must try harder.

Parkrun a few weeks away as Parliament Hills 15K XC Saturday. Looking forward to it even though sure to get lapped as 3 lap course. Glad it's a dry week ahead.

Iconic run. Mo Farah won as a junior in 2003 and a man from our youth David Bedford used to win it for training racing his labrador to the finish. In the clip I wonder if the ringer for @Ninja Elephant , at 30 seconds in, is his Dad.

Not sure a week of dry weather will help you much, I remember my first time there, it had been a bone dry winter and I still managed to lose my shoes twice in the bog that awaited us at the bottom of every hill!

Dave Bedford was a legend. A bit like Jonah Barrington who transcended his sport (that's Squash for anyone who is under 55) and was a household name.

Back in c.1971 I was going out with a girl who was - unlike me - a serious athlete and she worshipped Dave Bedford. Unsurprisingly I never measured up, not least, but not only, in the moustache department! My only consolation is that as he retired a long while back with dodgy knees, I'd probably give him a run for his money now. Come to think of it, I'm not so sure...……….

Ha - my dad has never been a runner! He broke his ankle stepping off a curb walking to the Goldstone Ground in the 80s and he marks that date as his retirement from all active passtimes, not that he was doing any prior to it though!

I've done the Bournemouth parkrun a couple of times, which is run at Kings Park and alongside the Vitality. I've never made the start though, so my times are pretty poor on both occasions. I'm determined to go and dominate next time!

I'm looking into helping a study on core temperature build up during marathons for Brighton University. You give blood tests before and after BM, take a pill for recording temp. (I've asked for more details on this). The main benefit, apart from helping sport research, is you get a 20 minute VO2 test on a dreadmill at Brighton University in Eastbourne 21/22 March or 28/29 March (not good Hastings Half weekend).

Any input aprreciated and anyone interested I can give you the email address.

The VO2 test sounds interesting and I'm always happy to get involved with research - let me know what they say about the pill though. I don't want to run sub 3 and then be challenged for doping by the other contributors to this thread!

NASA equipment rather than medical pill. Very much Black Mirror. Poo it out, quick wash under the tap and you have an addition to your BM medal.

I think, on that basis, I'm out! Tomorrow I'm looking for my 10th sub-19 parkrun in a row, I'm debating whether I should trek out to Seaford to run it with a friend of mine who is absolutely caning the times recently or get over to Lancing and hope no dangerously quick lad shows up to deny me their Gold again! Assuming I'm awake early enough to have the choice. :lolol:

I discovered this week that one of the reasons I wasn't able to make the stop down the Droveway last week was because my rear brake was locked up and only touching one side of the wheel. I had no idea, but I did think my brakes should have more pop in them than I was experiencing - a chap at work who happened to be locking up at the same time as me is also a qualified bike mechanic and pointed it out. I apparently also have a knackered derailer - but that's for another thread!

Nothing doing for me today as the curse of 2020 continues with a chest infection. Looking on the bright side, this might give my groin and knee a chance to recover, I'm not even capable of doing the marshal job today and that says it all.

Good luck. Thought 9.08 was a strange posting time and was expecting a live video of an attempt to top the 2020 AG table.

Sitting paranoiacly at home with yesterday’s 10” pace 3 mile easy run in my mind. Why do those pre race runs feel so heavy?

Still not every day can you get away with being on Hampstead Heath in your vest and pants.....
