I will be heading to Hove Prom tomorrow to see if the 10K training is going to translate in to an SB or if the predicted heat and sunshine is going to leave me a sobbing mess. Anyone else?

I’ll be there. First run over 2.5 miles for 5 weeks. Bring your swimmers.

Results from Weakest Link:

http://www.jogshoponline.co.uk/theweakestlinkrelay.html

Amazing out of 100 teams that two of ours should be so close. Testimony to the Gaffer's selection skills.

BTW just in case: no Worthing parkrun tomorrow as there's building work on the prom.

Edited my mistake out of the results.

22.37 for me today on the prom - a SB. Good to see knocky1 and Simgull before the start. 470 people finished and I was 106th. When I was in the 23s before the marathon I finished 54th! Worthing needs to reopen!!

Bloody Worthing!
Good luck. A top 10 finish maybe....

Well not quite - 19/223.

A poor time - 23.11 but compensated by not only a category win but at (rather improbably) the best time for all over 50s and 2nd in the overall AG classification.

So - it's quite a tough course. It's very nice to look at (starts on the rugby pitch but soon goes into really nice wooded trails) and the parking isn't too bad. It's undulating with uneven ground and even today was muddy in parts. In winter it could be a quagmire. Also I thought that Uckfield was rather nice little town - with a Waitrose for knocky1.

Overall: recommended - but don't turn up looking for a PB or if there's been heavy rain in the previous few days.

Bloody Worthing!
Is that what they told you?? !!

Oh bloody hell! I've just checked: there was one.

I was going on this:

14/06/2019 · ‼️ IMPORTANT NOTICE ‼️ The safety of all parkrun participants and that of the general public are always our main priority. With this in mind we need to cancel parkrun on Saturday 22nd June owing to the building works being completed on the promenade

Apparently they then announced that it was ON but I missed it. As the old saying has it - 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions'. It's a 5K road obviously! I hope there were no NSC runners put-off by this.

Sounds good. Had my first Parkrun in 4 weeks. Happy with a 22:11. My 71.68% (exactly the same as yours on a tougher course today) is a boost after very little running. Could feel it at 2.2 miles and began to drop off to 7:30-45 pace before a little recovery when the finish line came in sight. I was sandwiched between two SBs from Guinness Boy and Simgull.

Will try and get into shape for Worthing next Saturday for the Arena AG showdown.

Yes SB confirmed 21:25/70.58%. Great to break the 70% mark - first time in ages. Followed up with a PB of eight black bream- so that’s tonight’s tea sorted.

That's a spooky AG coincidence. I think the Uckfield course is 60-90 seconds slower than a prom course...……………..certainly for me given that if I get to run an event away from flat tarmac the wheels fall off (as also evidenced by the Weakest Link). All roads lead to Worthing!

A ParkRun PB of 25:30 today and I have entered the Brighton Marathon :) Nowhere near the standard on here but after a rear of pain I am starting to feel like I can push on and improve.

After 10 months of real shin splint problems and various hospital appointments I feel like it's starting to get better finally and I can start to push myself again. Fingers crossed as all I want to do is run pain free.

Good luck mate. Constant pain is a real downer. The only way is up! Keep posting and reporting progress.

Thank you, that's genuinely encouraging.

The pain in my shins and the trouble in getting rid of it has really been getting me down but if I can start to run pain free I will be a very happy man.

Thanks again

Now you’ve suffered shin splints you won’t want them again. Proper running shoes and a good roller will keep them away. It’s well worth investing in both.
Good luck, you’re back on the road and don’t compare yourself with the elite on here, compare yourself to you last week.

Let us know how you are doing

Good luck! timbha is right about proper shoes and foam rolling. Good to hear you’re back on the road. Brighton Marathon sounds like it could be another NSC meet up event

Good news. I’ll update the table. Stop running if any return of shin splint pain and cross train.

Yes 3 or more different trainers and I now have 3 types of roller and a spiky ball.

I was trying hard not to compare myself to the elites on here Wednesday night in The Bristol. 45 minutes listening to their current running times over 3 pints of Guinness and I cracked. I transported everyone back to the Withdean year 1972 and then the Saudi Desert Years 1994-96. As I threw in the battle against Rheumatoid Arthritis the Bar quickly emptied......except for the little old man talking to himself in the corner.

Past excellence can be a burden, I guess. (I'm guessing because it's a burden I've never shared!) I do - very occasionally - revisit all the yellowing copies of event results from the late 80s onwards (I only go back that far) and note with a bit of pleasure that the I'm now not too far behind the top blokes who I was very far (indeed) behind back then. It's funny because you still don't really feel that you're in their class. Just as well I wasn't in that pub; it could have been a long night!
