On NSC for over two decades...
Horrid conditions at Guildford Parkrun, with slippery mud, rain and wind.

I finished 8th in 21:38. In fact only the 1st placed guy finished in less than 20 minutes with an astonishing 16:36 (though he does hold the course record at 15:16).

A 22:20 for me today at a wild and windy Bognor course. Guess the two Parkruns yesterday were still in the legs. Anyone else venture out?

Good to meet you too @GNT, at least until you disappeared off into the distance in front of me!

I did Preston Park today to complete the B&H parkrun treble in two days. 21:19 on the Prom, 21:59 at HP and 22:04 at PP. Certainly felt it in the legs this morning also on the back of cycling to/from the Amex yesterday in the wind and rain.

Only 53 finishers this morning at the Prom compared with 260+ yesterday - quite a difference.

Did 10 miles this afternoon, was aiming for 2 easy/3 hard/2 easy/3 hard but ballsed up the first hard block by trying to run at target pace into the wind and died on my arse. Live and learn! Conditions were wretched......

Did 1/4 mile and walked home. Stretched and rolled lower leg on sock covered rolling pin (tight wads foam roller). Starting to feel less tight. [MENTION=27279]dazzer6666[/MENTION] were you given any stretches for muscles above the knee for your calf strain? Jesus not back till end of week and no appointments then.

Stop trying to run on it, you'll properly f*** it up if you're not careful. Three weeks now or three months later.....

No, all lower leg usual calf stretches. Soleus is difficult to stretch - toes against the wall and elevated (top of skirting board ish) and push knee towards the wall. Also bent knee calf stretch on the stairs.

Good stuff. When mine was properly knackered last year I cycled quite a lot and used the elliptical trainer. It's only running that seems to use that muscle.....very annoying

Well done for doing the treble. Not surprised at the turnout on the Prom; must have been hard work into that wind. I try to keep Hove Prom for PB attempts. An even better one IMO - although a bit of a travel - is Southsea which is just as flat but only has one turn.
Good solid start to the New Year for you, though.

Love the 'foam roller'! Shame it's not doing the trick. Like many others I've had the same problem. Actually there's 2 problems: one physical (runner's calf) and one mental ('runner's brain'). The latter is a psychological condition which impels the sufferer to test any injury to such an extent and/or at such time as it takes to get it far worse! I share your pain. Meanwhile.........................
I'll join the chorus which advises you to await the next coming of Jesus.

Squeezed in a six miler along the seafront this morning. On the last few runs though, I've noticed a dull pain in my right knee, which doesn't hurt as such, but i can sometimes feel for the rest of the day. Thought giving it a week or so's rest between runs would sort it out, but doesn't seem to disappear completely. Any advice?

Exceptionally dull (and likely obvious) but the most common cause I see of this is old running shoes (ideally replace once a year otherwise the sole wears and doesn't cushion the impact as effectively.) You could also try using a roller under your knee after running as a preventative. Also: big up Koaste!

Stretching may help? If it is on the outside of knee it is iliotibial band syndrome and behind kneecap runners knee.
For second Try lying flat on the floor and, with each leg in turn, bring the ankle up to touch the buttock and hold for 30 seconds. Tummy in. Stop if you feel any pain in knee area.

Hmm, not sure. Conventional wisdom is by mileage, not time.....for me it's all over the place though. Have got 2,500 miles out of a pair of neutral road shoes and less than 200 out of a pair of Asics trail shoes that fell apart after 2 trail marathons and a bit of training.

If pain persists I'd go and see a decent sports physio - correct diagnosis is absolutely critical.

I'll be the first (perhaps the only) person to say I've been nowhere near 5 minutes yet alone 4! I think you'd need some very specialised track-based training to break 5. Of course like most targets it depends a lot on where you are starting from. But even if you are around a 6 min mile now, then there's a lot of work going to be put in to whittle it down to a sub 5.
Hope you get some advice from someone who has cracked this - maybe this would be a good reason to join a local club and get some coaching advice?
Good luck with this one; it's a really good target.
