Probably a bit late but, like a stuck record, I have to say something about the annual sampler from the truly wonderful Kompakt Records. I really don't understand how they can have such a huge, varied and consistently high quality roster year in year out. Their samplers come with around 25 tracks/artists and rarely a dud. If you even have a vague interest in electronic music do yourself a favour and buy the current one; you won't regret it.

That's an amazing esoteric list - I've heard of nine of the people on it. But it also reveals that Shirley Collins has a new album out - something no other list has mentioned. She gave up recording about 40 years ago, so this should have been major news.

Mind you, I've listened to a couple of tracks from it and her voice isn't what it was - but she's in her 80s now, so that's fair enough

Here's a taster: Rex The Dog's Teufelsberg https://youtu.be/Sll-E0aim7k

I love the long breakdown

Released at around the same time was another album by Kompakt mainstay 'Michael Mayer' called '&'. I think though this is on !K7 Records but it is still very, very Kompakt Records in its vibe. Mayer curated the Immer series of albums for Kompakt and if you haven't heard them they are well worth listening to. Check this out.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about Kompakt Records. By far my favourite electronic music label.

I just listened to Tindersticks' L.P. again.

That's my album of the year.

Oh my days.

Yeah could be worth a revisit, I remember filing it away to come back to and not really doing it. There's something about Stott's stuff that seems to suit cold and dark for me. Summer music it isn't.

It's colder in my house, than outside at present (or at least it seems so), so will give it a spin

Just listening to the Poliça album 'United Crushers' and I reckon it should probably have featured in my list somewhere and I'm very surprised by its absence from those record shop top 100s.

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's 'Ears,' has quite deservedly got a lot of end of year praise. However, fans of ambient/ found sound gear will really get on with the album she has done with Suzanne Ciani as vol. 13 of RVNG Intl's amazing series of collaborations. Might even better Sun Araw/ The Congos (Vol. 9) a few years back.

Little excerpt from it below.

Nice to see Brighton's own Kemper Norton in there at 40. Always had a lot of time for him but the new record is a real step up in concept and execution.

Which reminds me, I'll get a list up of some of the more underground Brighton stuff this year soon. Really, really good year off the top of my head. Can't see anything topping this track through, Great Pagans second album is my big Brighton hope for next year.
