I've been listening a lot just lately to "Return to the last chance saloon" by those Britpop greats, The Bluetones. This is a great album - and one which surfs the crest of the last year of Britpop better than most, and in many ways typifies the best of the whole Britpop thang.

Looking back, for me it draws a neat line under the whole scene.

Onwards and upwards, but that'll always be a great album in my opinion.

What are your Britpop classics?

Britpop sucks bigtime. Its called Brit pop cos None of them made it overseas, the 90's was a desert as far as UK talent goes.

Like Glam rock.

I agree with looney here, most Britpop was very poor music. Blur went up the shitter when they released Parklife (that stuff was just annoying) and Oasis went downhill after Difinitely Maybe. Bands like the Bluetones, Cast, Pulp, Gene and so on really were nothing more than filler bands for the charts at the time. The only group at the time that were making really interesting music were the Prodigy.
Oh and as for the Seahorses.....:nono:

Agree, Prodigy stood out, and top charts on both sides of the atlantic.

The Dance scene is the 1990's one redeeming feature and that began in the 80's.

Seaho's?

OCS . . ..shyte more like

blur went a bit poppy, but did it well, Blur/Blur was and still is a quality album

Pulp never did it for me, the rest as has been said where just fillers, Gene where awful, I played with the blutones a few times supporting, they had a few songs but really ewherent up to much, and where probably the miserablest bunch of boring twats Ive ever met . . . .as for Heavy Stereo and menswear,

In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

I quite liked Britpop, but really music just marked time from the end of the Seventies until the arrival of Busted.

Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Ocean Colour Scene, Manics, Ash, Radiohead...........

All absolute quality.

1993-1997 were truly great years for music IMHO.
