I hate doing them.

My one with my boss should prove interesting.

We dont have things like that at work, We just work in the simple princible that if you dont get called into the office for a bollocking then you must be doing something right.

Yeah it's a standard pay rise across the board.

Appraisals should not be about pay increases. They are there to discuss your performance based on agreed targets.

Yes we know that but it all adds up to the pay review (if there is one)

Yes but it shouldn't.

Pay reviews are normally based on wether the company can afford it ( hense you get a %age rise) or based on a lump sum that your manager thinks you are worth.

In our place, objectives and appraisals are for Bonus only.

Revenue and margin targets plus whatever anal quality / security ISO standard we go for.

Also service improvements

Bonus is based on a further set of objectives (cut and pasted from the appraisal ones)

It all sounds very complicated and there's no way i'd let my manager assess my anal quality for a start.
