Off to Prague for the weekend and am just looking into travel insurance. Went to compare the market, typed in dates etc and it's come up with a list from £3.85 - £21.94. They all seem to be offering the same kind of cover (£10 million medical cover, £1000 cancellation cover, £750 baggage cover etc) Is there any disadvantage to going for the dirt cheap option or is it much like car insurance where you just go for the cheapest option available?

Thank You

A good friend of mine runs one of the largest online travel insurance companies in Australia. All they do is take a cut on the Allianz cover, and share that cut with their customers. The cover is identical to the Allianz. I don't see why it would be any different here

At the risk of sounding stupid, are you saying the cheap one is fine?

You'll never know how good the insurance (or the insurance company) is until you make a claim.

Very much This

There is normally a reason why they are so cheap, check the excess, check the terms and conditions. Go for a company that asks you to declare medical history, that way you know exactly what you are and are not covered for before you go.

The cheaper companies will almost always try an wriggle out of any claim you make for medical expenses on the grounds that the condition existed before you left (even if it didn't).

Spend a bit more for peace of mind.

This advice comes from someone who spent 8 years selling Travel Insurance for a well known sponsor of our lovely new home.

Thanks guys, the first name on the list I actually recognise is ASDA which is a shade under £5 so I'l go with them as it's a well known brand name, less likely to get screwed (I hope)

Thanks for your help, as always
