Hello there,

Transferred some money into my partners account this morning which when she went to check it was able to access anything, she went into the bank and was told that her account has been frozen, she is going in tomorrow morning to sort it but they told her nothing will go in or out while it is frozen

Nothing is showing as coming as bouncing back to my account so I was wondering as to how long it is likely to take to come back to me? Do I need to contact my bank or will it come back automatically?

Thanks

Here, there and everywhere
I have just had a similar thing, with Santander. I have spent two lunchbreaks in there trying to get the money out and am fed up with it now.

In a nutshell, the computer says no, and the staff don't seem to know of a way round it.

I've been told that one way would be to close the account and move the money into a new account. But they can't close the account, because it's frozen.

Seen a few examples of this. They usually freeze accounts if they suspect money laundering or if they accidentally mark the wrog account for closure. The Office of Fair Trading will be able to tell you of any other laws or authority that the bank has to do this. Their telephone number is: 0845 722 4499.

Best thing to do is go into the branch you opened it. If you opened it online then the branch will be the main UK HQ branch for the bank (e.g 1 Balloon Street, Manchester for the Co-Operative, which is my bank). Take several pieces of ID and proof of home address and they should be able to send you a cheque for the amount in your account. You may then have to re-open an account or, depending on just how pissed off you are, go to another bank.

Hope this helps.

Is it an A&L / Santander account? I had this a while back - the account wasn't frozen as such but online access to it was. At exactly the same time, my cashpoint card got gobbled up by a machine which Santander claimed was not related. Seemed very coincidental however.

If it is this, I doubt you'll get the money back as the account is still there and valid so you'll have to wait until you somehow regain access to it.
