so, a few days ago my freeview box stopped working. it says 'no channels found' and when you search for them it finds nothing.

i assumed it was knackered, but i went to listen to my dab radio today and the same thing....

i'm in east london so i'm guessing if the 'signal' was down there would be some mention of it on the interwebs, which i cant find.

does anyone have a CLUE what the cock is up? :)

thanks n'all that xxxx

Is your DAB using an internal aerial or a roof aerial?

Theres no planned outages that I can find for east london, so if they're both off the same roof aerial - someones swiped it ;)

thanks for the suggestions, they're both off seperate internal arials though, which is confusing me most!

the radio is just the long wire out the back i've got strung up, and the freeview box is an internal arial and booster......

normal tv still works fine too.

Take the radio "down the road" and see if it works.

Have you any idea what transmitter you're getting them from? It might be Crystal Palace (spit), which is having some work done on it to get the BBC High Definition test going, so it might be reduced power - but I can't find anything to suggest it is.

They've been working on the Crystal Palace transmitter.

Apparently they've been painting it, and have to reduce its power for Health and Safety reasons.

Goes back onto full power on Saturday.

That'll be it then

They have to reduce the power because at its power - 1KW - you don't want to get anywhere near the transmitter at that power because you will get cancer off a UHF transmitter that powerful. Not even a case of "maybe" but "when".

Why can't they just turn the bugger up to volume 11 and sterilise everyone in Croydon?

I'd hope the reason that its that powerful is to that in the first place - theres a 5 mile exclusion zone around RTÉ's 800kW transmitter and yet theres house pretty close to this 1MW one. :D :D

Hold on - it came back to full power LAST Saturday. :D

Having eventually found the BBC Engineering page, two of the six digital TV multiplexes on Crystal Palace are marked as "expect interruptions" until tomorrow.

You obviously don't know the area.

There's a f*cking big exclusion zone around the transmitter.

It's called Croydon.
