I have an old computer which is running on Windows98 but want to upgrade it to XP. How do I get rid of 98 on my computer so I can load XP as it won't load at the moment with 98 on it.

Thank you.

XP will install over 98

Its just a VERY f***ing BAD IDEA to let it

Its a rare computer that came with 98 that will run XP. Most of them will, however, run Windows 2000 without any problems, which is faster and more stable than XP.

Not to bothered about how it runs just that I cannot load on my wireless adapter on it due to being 98. With XP all should be fine.

If your pc is over 500mghz it should run ok but a bit slow,
If under don’t bother it will be very unstable.

What is the problem with trying to get xp to load? I might be able to talk You through it.

Have you tried switching it off and on again?

"how it runs" will be "not at all" basically if you have less than 192MB RAM.

You can actually get away with a slooow processor - I've done it on 266Mhz - but having more than 192MB RAM is utterly essential or nearly nothing will work.

If you only want to surf the net and read emails install Ubuntu Linux.

Its free and there is a ton of support for it these days. I will almost find all your hardware too.

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/

Been using it for the last 6 months will never ever go back to Windows.

Or why not try other operating systems like BEOS.

One things for sure you want get anymore viruses or spyware.

If you instal XP you may need new printers and scanners that will not work properly. Not recommended to use it.

Delete the Windows Directory under MD-DOS gets rid of it.

I have kept Windows 98 on my old computer. XP is only good for the things that the old computer would be too slow for.
