Nuisance phone calls

Got a call today from some overseas place asking if I would like an investment brochure.

They asked me to confirm my name and address and I said I am not going to give out personal information over the phone. As soon as I said this, they put the phone down.

I wonder what this scam is all about?
Are they trying to get my personal details so they can clone me?

Quite often numbers are selected randomly via a computer program - I doubt you will hear from them again.

Tempting, Kenhead.

I get them all the time at the shop, and I could be rude back, but I just cannot be arsed with it, so I hang up. It is something so much ruder, and therefore much more satisfying, in knowing the unwelcome phone caller is getting the single disconnected tone.

It is sending out the clear, unambiguous message - 'f*** off' - without actually saying it.
