Surely Turkey has to be dressed up with all the trimmings at Christmas due to it's intrinsic BLANDNESS?
You spend your time eating all the interesting bits (chipolatas and stuffing) and end up bloated, while the Ostrich-like CORPSE on the sideboard sits there looking at you and whispering 'never mind all those sandwiches, soups and curries you are going to have to make from me, I will still be with you until the New Year'.
On the other hand the small joint of Venison we had the other year was tender and tasty, with just a few Roasties and Pancetta Sprouts and a Redcurrent & Port jus (or gravy as I call it to annoy Mrs Jakarta).
Left plenty of room for the Cheeseboard (and more Port) as well....
Wife, daughter and me are going to my sisters and her family for Christmas day and she always puts on a great spread,
Turkey, Beef and Ham joint this year, can't wait
Turkey can be very dry but smothered in gravy or tomato ketchup it's fine. A big part of Christmas along with the Brussel sprouts, watching The Snowman and farting loudly in the evening.
Turkey for us but gammon on boxing day cold with mash - and pickles - I prefer this to be honest - i'll be listening to the Reading game - although I am sorely tempted to go as its pay on the gate now x
