Morning all. I'm off to the hospital later to discuss an op with my surgeon. It's to remove a small piece of synovial (sp?) membrane from my knee to reduce the amount of fluid produced and swelling of the joint due to my arthritis.

Has anyone had this procedure before? I'm a little apprehensive, so any feedback would be appreciated.

I can trade knowledge about dental implants and rhinoplasty.

Nope, never had this procedure but as a fellow sufferer I've been through some of the other enjoyable ones like Arthroscopy, Cortisone etc

What type of arthritis do you have? And who's your consultant? Mpofu?

They basically "inflate" your knee with saline solution to seperate all the internal layers and will remove the offending tissue with some long scissors and a little hoover using a tiny camera, very simple procedure and you will be up and about in no time.

Nope, never had this procedure but as a fellow sufferer I've been through some of the other enjoyable ones like Arthroscopy, Cortisone etc

What type of arthritis do you have? And who's your consultant? Mpofu?

I have Poly-articular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and have had since the age of 2. It was Mpofu, but then he left for Austria, so now some random bloke.

It turns out that they don't wanna operate as it's too risky, and I'm only 19. But thanks for all the info guys. Most appreciated.

Mpofu has left?!! Gutted! I've only just learned how to pronounce his name

I have Rheumatoid and was diagnosed when I was 19, but had been having probs since I was 12. My blood tests were clear for 7 years tho.
