Nice - they must have been starving without a regular supply of bait going in. Easy day

H Heath reporting new membership cards will be delayed because of volumes Fishing is the new walking

four others all caught well, but as you say haven't seen any bait for a while , the newbies will soon thin out when it gets cold

Yes much better wind ... Neap tides don’t help Though......... actually f..uck fishing.

At 50 I’m only just getting started so I can only dream of a day like that but it is still the most relaxing thing I’ve done and don’t care if I catch , or if it’s only tiddlers

There is May Rot about too that won't help with the lures..

I'm with you on that. Sadly they allow this slaughter to go on year after year, if I want some mackerel for smoking and freezing I try to get there early morning and once I get a builders bucketful, about 30-40, then I'm off home to get them filleted and brined. Either that or I use small metal lures and have some fun and take maybe a dozen for souseing or just filleting and grilling.

Many, many years ago I used to regularly fish out of Newhaven, initially on Bold Joy or My Pioneer but then on My Silhouette.

Over the years my mates would take home bin bag’s full of mackerel whilst I took 2 or 3 brace and returned the rest.

Turns out, basically just handling them is a death sentence.

I now catch what I need and stop.

34 carp today for a weight of just over 100lb luncheon meat and banded pellet doing the Buisness, also queues to get into monks fishery in Kent this morning , the biggest participated sport in the country is back !

Please don’t think that’s something to aspire to, anyone can bag up on a commercial water.

Your desire to just catch anything including tiddlers suggests you are my kind of angler. If you care to PM me I’ll hopefully sort you out a bit of special fishing.

Great post....it was the prevalence of carp-puddle commercial fisheries that partly led me to give up match fishing. Spend a fortune, rocking up to waters where everyone fishes the same method, and where winning weights are always 100lb plus of carp and the regulars always win turned me right off.

I’d rather spend a few hours with a stick float and a bomb rod roaming along a river bank, not knowing what’s going to bite next. It’s a different type of fishing (each to his own and all that) but I love having to use a bit of old-style watercraft and not knowing when the float goes under whether it’s a 2oz gudgeon or a 4lb chub, and being equally pleased with either..........

Been fishing a few times but fancy getting into it a bit and teaching the boy.

Nice....takes me back to childhood!

I’ve had a couple of short evening sessions on the local lake which I can walk to easily. Going very old skool at the moment, really just enjoying having a go. Been simply freelining in the margins, just taking a rod, reel, net, mat and a few bits and pieces with me in a small bag. Reasonable amount of action with the carp - naturally bred, old estate-lake things in fantastic condition. Not big but great fun to catch in this way - fight like demons in the shallow water and lillies. This one was maybe 8-10lb.

Where are you based ?

I’d probably head for one of the commercial waters - key with a youngster in tow to get them interested is to actually catch something before committing to joining a club.

Love this sort of fishing...all the tackle and bait you need in a carrier bag, minimal stuff, short evening sessions. Proper fishing.
