I blame Jack Straw and Everest with all of their Amex updates-they're the ones who should be paying.

Given that NSC has always seemed to make a profit, why would an increase in users make it become unprofitable? If anything, I would assume it would become more profitable; revenues should grow proportionally with the userbase and if anything the costs would rise at a lower rate?

If only it were that simple. You'll see when I post February's figures that costs have increased more than revenues. That said, it may be masked this month as I think we receive the December Amazon revenues this month. I

We still have c£6000 in the pot, so no immediate pressure to call out for funds. However the nature of our current hosting package is such that costs are variable - simply the more server resources we use, the more we get charged. Given how hosting costs have escalated this season I need to move us to a fixed cost solution, which will mean returning to our own dedicated server once again. However, unlike last time, when our server creaked at anything above 400 or so concurrent users, I will look to make sure that our new server is sufficiently powerful to cope with our busy periods. I've sought advice from admins of other boards I know of that also use vBulletin and are as busy, or busier than NSC. I reckon I should be able to get us on a fixed cost hosting platform for c£250 per month that should be more than adequate for our needs.

Beyond that, there are a few other things I need to do...

- Make better use of other affiliate schemes. Amazon works very well for us, but I should also be encouraging users to go to other sites, such as eBay, Play, Tesco etc via NSC. It will all add up and make a difference.

- Become stricter about people linking to their content off NSC, particularly where the pages linked to carry ads and look to monetize that content. Example: you want to blog? Good, when I upgraded vBulletin I paid extra for the vBulletin blogging platform that is fully integrated into the main board itself, so write your blog on NSC, keeping content and eyes here.

- Enhance NSC beyond what it currently is to include, for example, an Albion wiki - make it the online home for all Albion related information, accessible and modifiable by all. Also an Albion specific version of Soccerbase - all our results, scorers etc from the dawn of time until today. Make NSC the first port of call for all Albion fans, almost nomatter what they want. And monetize those pages as we do currently with the main board.

200 posts a month for free after that you buy packages of 25?

Thread Sponsor for more popular threads, i.e. Predict The Score, Transfers & Loans, Eating Out, etc.

One-off joining fee (Although may stop those very sensible non-fan posters we get)

Monthly Sponsor of Site?

I thought paying was a good idea however it will cause more issues on bannings etc.

TSLR will sponsor worlds hardest animal each year.

let's talk figures $$$

you'd have to call it The Seagull Love Review Worlds hardest Animal Competition from now on though and key posters would be tied in to some advertising and PR things.

Wrongly corrected Granny. Or should I say corrected wrong? Wrong can be used as an adverb when placed after the verb.

I love pedantry

I would have thought that "pedantry" should have been followed by a full stop?

Will the dedicated server be able to cope with 4,000+ users on NSC all at the same time next season when there will be an increase in users and guests ?

Will you please allow me to show my ignorance just one more time, this time regarding affiliated sites.

Bozza, If NSC could choose it's sites could I put in a claim for:-
Bikes | Mountain Bikes | Road Bikes Cycling Apparel | Wiggle (it's running too, honest)

There's a popularity for running and cycling throughout the forum, plus in general more money spent due to higher RRP, compared to DVD'd and books.

(I guess the affiliates are all via a third party of which you have little/no control, or more importantly the time)

I guess at some stage, we're going to have to pay a subscription to keep up with the running costs of the site?

Or have a batallion of mods to try and keep the lid on the dustbin!

I've come back home.
This is where my ignorance kicks in, when i go the amazon button at the top and search then buy something, a margin goes to NSC, or is there more to it? I purchased a PS3 game last week but couldnt see any trace of NSC past the first screens URL. Sorry if i am being a moron.

Just so long as you went into Amazon from the red writing at the top, all's good, the rest is done for NSC.

You should have a sticky with links that gives money if we buy stuff. We all do internet shopping so sure we can all make an effort.

I vaguely recall a few video games sold in the last week or so. I'll dig out sale details later and post them.
