Taliban have never attacked the UK. The only reason they may even consider doing so now, is because British troops are waging Americas war in Afghanistan.

Why do you think they would attack the UK? Other than our involvement in this ridiculous waste of lives?

My first response it that the coalition has a responsibility to leave Afghanistan in a better state that when we entered. I think we are some way off that at the moment.

If we pull out now, we will probably create a failed state in a similar way to how the 'baddies' came to power in Vietnam after Nixon's "peace with honor". However, to a degree goldstone is right, there are people out there that are becoming extremists because they can see foreign powers occupying Arab territory.

So, I stick to my first point. Yes, we need to withdraw. But not before we have made Afghanistan into some sort of functioning state, which will unfortunately take years rather than months.

Afghanistan would function perfectly well on it's own. The Taliban operate there in a bid to rid it of the troops. Trrops out and most of that violence will stop.

People are very uncomfortbale with the idea that the US and UK brought it upon themselves as it suggests our governments don't have our best interests at heart and would actually put us in harms way to acheive wealth and power. Which is of course exactly what they do every day.

I think you will find it was the Saudi's that were flying jumbo jets into New York before we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.

I never said that, you are taking words out of my mouth. My issue was purely with the fact that you seemed to be presenting 9/11 as a completely random and unprovoked attack which we know it wasn't, if we look before 2001 at all.

The thing i dont understand is. Why dont we spend the billions that it is costing to fight this war on beefing up our own home security.
We are an island so surely it must be a little easier to stop terrorists getting in.
I have driven off the ferry at Newhaven loads of times and never once been stopped, or my car searched, because they cant offered Police to stand there all day.
We should be investing in our own security, not some other country that we will never win over.
Spend the money on finding the scum that are here already and to stop more getting in.
It will never happen because it would p-ss the yanks off too much.

The taliban provided shelter for Al Qaeida and Bin Laden who attacked the US in 2001. Afghanistan was invaded in 2001 as a response to the Taliban not giving up Bin Laden.

Before Sept 11th 2001 nobody was interested in the Taliban (in fact the US had funded the Taliban in the 1980's war against Russia), despite what they were doing to the afghan people and its heritage.

As as an aside the "baddies" in Vietnam (actually the goodies) are the same people that kicked Pol Pot out in Cambodia and for ending the genocide their reward was being invaded by China and having a US sponsored trade embargo placed on them.
