No way. We knew the vast natural wealth that a country like Afghanistan was sitting on. No other explanation adds up.

oh really? was this the Taliban geologists that made the discoveries, or maybe the Mujahideen? or the Russians? or the extensive mining consessions previous?

or maybe, this "$1 trillion" worth of resources was in the news about two weeks ago, itself only probably an estimate. there is bound to be plenty of rsources, but i dont believe proper studies have been done in a war zone for the past 30 years.

It probably is an estimate, but enough to sure up Afghan, US and UK economies none the less. Studies are most likely made on war zones before they become war zones, not after. The Government knows the terrains it has to deal with, and someone somewhere might weigh 300 lives up against that kind of money. It's wrong, but it's probably true. We went to war for resources.
