Sven Goran Eriksson is poised to dip into his famous contacts book to pull off a stunning signing for League Two Notts County before the end of the transfer window.

Eriksson, made the club's director of football after a summer takeover, has been told money will be no object to get an A-list signing from Italy or Spain.

His former Lazio player Pavel Nedved and Luis Figo are both being sounded out to see if they will make a U-turn on retirement and the clubwould also find the funds for Inter Milan's Patrick Vieira.

County want to make three high-profile signings in the next fortnight and have already offered ex-England defender Sol Campbell a mouthwatering offer to reject Premier League offers to move to Meadow Lane.

But the club's new Middle East owners, Munto Finance, also hope to sign a marquee name from Europe to show their ambition of reaching the Premier League is serious.

County were buoyed on Friday that they were able to persuade Peter Schmeichel's son, Kasper, to join them from Manchester City on a five-year deal.

I'd love it if Figo, Nedved and Vieira went there. It would be classic.

And it would seriously draw in the neturals!

If that were true it would surely rival the signing of Allan Simonsen by Charlton, a former European Player of the year, a man who could probably have chosen which team he wanted to play for...at the time they signed him it was from Barcelona and Charlton were in the second division!

Seems a bit silly to me.

Sven doesn't know anything about league two, so his only plan is to convince retired international players to come and play for his old-boys club. If Notts County's owners really wanted success, why didn't they back their own manager and give him a chance before going for the Sven option? It seems that the so-called manager has very little to do with the direction of the club.

I honestly think that Notts County has disaster written all over it...

(awaits bounce when Notts County win promotion to Premier League)

If they get a rep as a well paid retirement club for fading greats it could be enough to get them into the championship at least. As an area to live its not bad either.
