We used Sainsburys West Hove yesterday and it was a breeze. It really couldn't have been any more straightforward.I would personally have put up with a lot less convenience for a bigger crowd.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s a shame we can’t use West Hove Sainsbury’s on a more regular basis.

Thanks are due to all the drivers who worked last night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many coaches in one place before and it was quite a sight as we left last night.

Club got the thousands who did go there and back very smoothly with good stewarding, multiple buses, and plenty of extra car parks and park and rides. Won’t be too everyone’s liking - lots on here predicted queues and waits and all sorts regardless of actual attendance - but in my experience from Lewes to Falmer and back, worth crediting.

Perhaps some were actually put off by reading on here how terrible it was going to be. - and threads like NO TRAINS etc

You have probably missed the point of the post you replied to.

If an extra 10k did show up just maybe it wouldn’t have gone so smoothly.

I haven’t missed it at all. The speculation on here and elsewhere about the lack of transport options, queues and even the ability to hire drivers to work on Boxing Day has been relentless.

Doesn’t mean that the reasons for not going or causing the thousands of empty seats weren’t valid whether for Covid, Boxing Day or living outside Sussex /no trains or the sharing scheme. Fair enough.

But the alternative operation put in place was pretty good and would have held up imo with far more fans and perhaps the endless negativity about it on here was unfairly hyperbolic and even worse on other fan sites/social media and might even have put people off from making the effort.

Ok if you say so.

The low attendance meant that the transport for last night coped very well, I’m pleased about that tbh.

We won’t know what would have happened with an extra 10k + , and I think this is a fair point.

Perhaps the half empty stadium sent a message to Sky and broadcasters and the PL that it’s not on doing these random times to fans. There NEEDS to be negativity because we simply shouldn’t be accepting these random times thrown at us at the expense of fans for the benefit of broadcasters. Someone needs to take a stand otherwise we won’t be far off a 9pm or 10am kick offs because they suit some foreign time zone market.

What is so hilarious about that?

The club did a great job with a rubbish situation. There is nothing amusing or triumphant about the fact that well over 10,000 of our fans gave it a swerve due to the unacceptable timing of the game. As others have said, had a few thousand more decided at the last minute to turn up, things would have been very different.

Again, not having a pop at the club as imo they did well, but at the situation which is one where supporters are the last consideration, even though they've coughed up good money and got tickets for the game.

It’s hilarious but ‘what if what if’ - the club had a difficult situation, went the extra mile to do what was within their powers to make it possible for as many fans as possible to attend and it worked well.

What do you think would have happened ? And do you have any info to support that ( buses hired, queue flow, car park capacity, percentage walked) or is it just guess work ?
I think it would have coped (I think the club know what they are doing here but agreed - I’m guessing) and as a reason for not attending it’s a shame if anyone gave a good game and victory a swerve because they believed it might be the like the “fall of Saigon” as one poster gleefully put it. Etc

Hahaha laughable to think the attendance was impacted by negativity on here and on social media. There was negativity because it's something to be negative about. Not the clubs fault either. It was a ridiculous kick off time and very impractical for thousands.

The club sent what, one email (apparently anyway, I didn't get it) and pushed out one article about the transport despite the obvious concerns from many about the problematic kick off time. What they didn't do was spam us with a campaign to reassure us they had secured loads of buses to get people in from all over and would run what was, i think anyway, a fantastic operation. Something along the lines of, "don't stay away, we'll get you there!"

Why? Well I'd guess it's because it still took a bloody long time to clear the car and coach park and the reality is if another 10k had showed the whole thing probably would have ground to a hault.

Good judgement all round I think. Well played Barbs and the transport manager.

Again, no it is certainly not hilarious, the 'what if' situation turned out correct as we have now had the lowest attended first team match at the Amex.

I reckon the club did well, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that there were only around 12,000 supporters there judging by the empty swathes in the north and east. I am sure the West was equally bad, but I cannot see that as I'm in it.

There is simply no universe, except one filled with spin, where a crowd which is usually around 30,000 and is more than halved due to the unfortunate timing of the game, can be seen as a triumph. It fulfilled the worst fears of those pointing this out once the kick-off was scheduled. You and Chailey are trying very hard to polish a turd, and it won't work.

Yes the club got the arrangements right for the predicted rubbish attendance. But that doesn't alter the fact that many thousands of us were excluded by a ridiculous KO time at an out of town stadium on a day when there was no public transport.

I’ll make it easy for you - it is hilarious that despite all the extra effort & cost the club went to for alternative transport that people can’t accept that they did well - they have to add ‘YES BUT WHAT IF MORE PEOPLE DECIDED TO GO THEN IT WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN’

The rest of the circumstances around the kick off time and tiny attendance are not hilarious, but again out of the clubs hands.

.

We don’t know why people didn’t go. But there will have been other reasons than merely a 8pm kick off with Covid, health and being in self isolation being a key one, as well as it being on TV or difficulty in passing on tickets. There were big gaps at all the games in the PL yesterday.

As I said “we don’t know “
I’ve also mentioned “maybe” so I don’t have any info to support anything.

Also you also don’t as in your post you have said ….” I think “ “ I’m guessing”
