Far be it from me to defend MA mkII. He didn't, did he? Lynch was injured. Hawkins played for a few games and proved to be a decent player (at the time). Lynch should have bided his time. Still, he got his move in the end, even if it did result in a handful of games per annum. I am sure the money made things easier.

The subsequent actions of Lynch would suggest that he was not in it to win it (for Brighton, at least).

Unless he's ten times the player he is now than he was for us, he aint playing Prem football next season, have heard so litle about him i thought he was out in the cold at Forest.

I nalways thought Lynch had the potential to be a great player. He showed flashes of brilliance, often followed by rookie mistakes. I remember one brilliant moment against Crewe away where an opposition player was timewasting in the corner. Lynch came flying in with a tackle and, rather than just lumping the ball out of play, managed to win the ball and start a break.

On very good authority. He was doing Ok...in fact Davies assured him he was part of the clubs plans at full back a mere day or so before signing Konchesky. I suspect the transfer speculation is down to his unhappiness at that.

I believe his demise started with his poor attitude toward some senior players and also some doubts about his stomach for the fight. He had a history of dropping clangers and then having 'an injury' which needed the bemused physio to run on and find nothing wrong with him. The Blackpool game that was on TV has an example of this where he loses possession, goes down injured and they score from it.

So I doubt it was a case of anyone insisting (or even thinking) that Hawkins was a better player, but more likely thinking that there were things happening off the pitch (as with many other of the youth team players who were in the first team squad then) which led to decisions about selection. Maybe he's learned from that experience and is a better all round player and person for it now.

I went to a Forest game earlier in the season and got speaking to Steve Hodge. He basically said they were very disappointed with Joel's progress.

That is EXACTLY how I remember him. Bad attitude too, we are well shot of him and no I don't think he'd last more than a couple of games in the Premiership. Powers of concentration were shit too.

You have to think the off-field issues persist and all the time they do his on field performances will continue to show his genuine potential but be strewn with errors.

Not good enough for Champ, so why Norwich? Must be agent or someone on a wind up! Fair enough he was an odd personality so if rather have a job sat on a bench than working hard in a league down to win a massive pay day, earn a slightly better safe wage for doing less if that's all you interested into. But then you've not got the long term career unless you break into the side. He seems to have had chances but never taken them!

I always thought he was a good player but his attitude and cockyness ruined it for him.
