The one thing I really miss about the Goldstone is the North Stand; because it was the power house of the Stadium, where the atmoshphere of that place emanated from.

We haven't had anything resembling the North Stand at home games since, and I think that when Falmer is built that the spirit of the North Stand needs to come home. You only have to read threads like this one to know where that spirit has been in the intervening years.

It should be a simple thing to achieve to bring that spirit home. There is a North Stand in the plan, we know what it should be called, make it unreserved seating (sit where you like) and nominate the entire stand as "singing".

:)

At Hull City's old ground (Boothferry Park) their East Stand (called the Kempton Stand) was where all the singers, nutters, most vocal supporters stood and when they moved to the K(F)C Stadium couple of years ago, alot of them requested season tickets in the East Stand.

The atmosphere at the KC Stadium is good, but is best in the East Stand because this is where so many of the old die-hards from the old ground sit (and shout!!)

PS The East Stand is along a side, not behind a goal, so this idea that you need the noise to come from behind the goal to help generate an atmosphere is rubbish!

Sadly I have only followed the Albion since 1997-98 (been a full time supporter since 2002). So I just missed out on the Goldstone days. But I have heard about the North Stand at the Goldstone and wish I was a few years older to have experienced it.

I think it would be cool if we could try and recreate that atmosphere at Falmer with old North Standers being placed in the new North Stand.

The idea of it being behind a goal is because that is where the Northstand was ???

By the time we get our new stadium, will the old Goldstone northstanders still be alive? ???

We had a thread of old North Stand songs from the 1970s on here a couple of weeks ago, including 'Tiptoe through the North Stand', 'I was was born in the Goldstone Ground', 'We had joy we had fun...', 'Celery, celery' and of course 'Knees up Brighton town...'

Marvellous scenes, and this was before there were marvellous scenes...

Are unreserved Season Tickets available at any other clubs ? - just how practical are they - the idea sounds excellent but I'm not sure if they would work.

Couldn't agree more........ but this should be addressed to the club...... we need to write to DK etc to keep it fresh in his mind, UNRESERVED SEATING SINGING SECTION............. no compromises, lets ensure we recreate our away support at our new home...... ( assuming we don't get stiffed over Falmer of course)

:bounce:

After the thread about how miserable the atmosphere at Withdean was the other day, I thought it appropriate to bounce my thoughts about re-establishing the North Stand at Falmer.
