Would be interesting to compare the atmosphere in the North if one game was 'all seated' and the next was 'all standing'. I remember those trips to Brentford and Peterboro - the atmosphere always came from those in the seated area, never the terrace behind the goal ;-)
Yes, because we was standing.

Hi.
All stewards have to complete or be in the process of completing the required NVQ qualification.

I work as a steward at the Amex and I use the 3 strikes routine, which always seems to work with away supporters.

However this has recently changed for homophobic chanting which is now 1 warning and your out.

when they said that they were going to get North Stand to sit down, I knew that it would be a difficult task.

What I would also say, is that not all stewards are as portrayed by some posts here, and that it is unfortunate that the South Stand and North Stand incidents happened in the same weeks.

But the club sold STs on the understanding that standing would be allowed in (parts of) the North Stand, ie the back four rows.

How is that square going to be circled?

The fan ejected was definitely towards the back of the stand. Are you a steward in disguise????
No-just a football fan,as I stated earlier, these fans around the incident cannot agree if it was persistant standing, starting a song,if the steward was pushed or hit. All this about not understanding the stadium rules about standing, bringing alcohol into the stands is really a cop out. You all know whats laid down in the stadium operating rules,it's that some think it does not apply to them. There is even an advert on the screens stating that the seats have been put in for your benefit, please use them. What do you want...for some steward to guide you to your seat and give you a printed set of rules...I'm mean,it must be tough not being able to behave during 2 hours of a stadium visit!

Its time for Poyet to speak to the middle managers and stewards. The conversation should be very short.. "they dont sit on the Kop and they wont sit at Brighton because we need them to support us, now stewards, wind your neck in". Or Poyet should say to the fans " we dont want your support so just sit down will you". The choice is the clubs, which is it?

Can you only support whilst standing up?

I blame the players, especially the game against Bolton, which i believe was why the heavy handed, and wrong target were put into play on Tuesday.
The BHA players were constantly attacking, and yes i was at fault as well, i kept standing up. Buckley started it, he kept skinning their full back, aided by Bruno, and i kept getting up, shame on me.
Then i got totally engrossed, silly me, i should have been thinking about sitting down. I did slump down on my padded seat when Barnes missed the penalty, my backside got very wet, i should really have got to my seat a few hours before the game, prior to the rain.
Then Orliandi started, his fault, i was up again. If only the players had not kept attacking, taking shots, i'm sure that i would have sat down for long periods, and maybe forgot to get up. I'm a bit gutted really, i never got my moneys worth out of my seat that day, i feel a bit cheated really.
Still the good thing was that i had good practice for standing all the way on the train home. How i wish those stewards were on the train.....so that's two seats in one day, paid for but hardly used.
I won't let it happen again, serves me right for getting excited eh.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that somebody was manhandled and then ejected for... standing up and starting a song. Where, in the ground rules and regulations, or even British law, does it say you can't do that? Ridiculous. They have no right to do that.

But he wasn't was he, "that song" is mearly an excuse to wind up the stewards when they attempt to do there job.
That's why he was removed because he was antagonising the stewards.

Are you saying that those sitting down are not supporting the club ? I think most of us go to the Amex to support the club....otherwise if it's about standing, well there are plenty of non league clubs you can go to,you can stand all match and nobody will bother you.
And the comparrison with the Kop! don't know if you've noticed,we are not the Kop

The best stewards are like the best refs, you hardly notice them. Its the one's that think they have a major role to play who are the problem. Quiet, efficient stewarding who are there to be helpful is what they should do. The North Stand was created by bloom to be like the North Stand at the Goldstone. They sold season tickets on that basis, but who forgot to tell the stewards? The fans fought for this club not to have a few stewards try and push people around. Poyet wants a red hot atmosphere, sitting down does not give Poyet what he wants, so the solution is for Poyet to have a little word with the stewards and the middle managers

Hang on a minute- he didnt start the song- thats the whole point- just joined in
Couldav kicked half the North Stand out on that basis

Or he may have been kicked out for standing (Cos he couldnt see as they were standing in front of him)
So they couldav kicked the other half out and had an empty Stand

Bottom line is he doesna know why he was kicked out

CRAZY

who said that?

Er, you did! You suggested it's stand up and support the team or sit down and don't.

The club cannot come out and say it is OK to stand because it is against the regulations and would probably invalidate their safety certificate and all sorts of things. They may have suggested it would be less strictly enforced at the back of the North but that's not the same as saying its OK to stand all the time.

I think you will find Liverpool have had their away allocations reduced because of persistent standing (ironic given the reason for all seater stadiums).

I would be quite happy to see the reintroduction of terraces but we are where we are I'm afraid so you can't blame the club for enforcing the rules that they are obliged to follow.

No, why are you taking extremes, of course people sitting down support the club. I sit down as Ive graduated from the standing days. But i do love your logic, if you are a scouser then you can create a passionate support (well actually the west stand at Brighton is louder than the Kop having been to both grounds but thats not the point). Its time for the younger generation and start making this their "Bill Archer" campaign of my generation. Fireworks to start a walk out? Meeting the manager outside the ground to get the inside track on what the Chief Executive is up to, boycotts, pitch invasions (er no not this time), local news debates, national campaign... the nostalgia for the bad times is almost relishing the prospect...

Right oh, then Poyet will have to come out and say that despite the fact that the fans want to support his team in a loud passionate way like at Leeds, he is instructing them to sit down and his players will give up the home advantage. If not, the club has to to tell the stewards to go on a day trip to other football grounds and that they should then wind their necks in. If not it has to be a call to arms for the campaigning Albionites that saved helped this club .. I suggest a Darlington at home firework display that prompted a walk out with 20 minutes to go..

Are you saying Poyet should come out publically to tell stewards that they should ignore FA rules and allow anyone who wants to stand to stand ???

No a private meeting with the Hebbard will do. Time the club stopped giving mixed messages tho and time for the younger generation to learn some lessons from those of us who were their age during the Archer era

I like nearly every single fan in the North stand behave at every single game I attend. I do not need a steward to explain anything to me. Do not imply that I do not behave or know how to. Some of the stewards need to be told how to behave and approach people in a positive way instead of aggressively getting in peoples faces, lying and making up allegations without any comeback on them. As for the steward involved he should be held to account for the over the top reaction which led to pathetic situation getting out of control. I won't hold my breath though.

Obviously, you moron. :jester:

Your view was spectacular by the way, can't thank you enough. And the stewards were fine too!

There are a lot of sensible posts in this thread, fused with the less sensible. The last thing anyone wants is a stand off like there was in sections of the South Stand at Withdean, there's a balance to be found somewhere. The input from The tall one is very interesting too to be fair, adds a different perspective. Be honest, insider, do certain stewards volunteer for the North Stand? How do you get allocated?

Again you're just making stuff up.

The bloke wasn't antagonising anyone, there's been about 5 or 6 eye witness accounts on this thread who have all said the same thing but the ex-stewards all refuse to believe it.
