Brighton & Hove Albion are set to seal the signing of non-league starlet Ben Dickensen.

Sky Sports revealed last month that the Dorchester striker was attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs.

Now Brighton are locked in talks with Dorchester and the player, and are ready to finalise a deal worth around £100,000.

Brighton have fended off interest from the likes of Burnley, Reading, Huddersfield and AFC Wimbledon to the 18-year-old.

Dorchester boss Alan Knight said: "Fingers crossed for him.

"It's a fantastic opportunity and whatever the figures are it will be very helpful to the club.

"Brighton are an up-and-coming club and it's a great place for him to learn his trade."

Dickensen's signing will be Gus Poyet's second raid on the non-league market this season after they landed Solly March from local side Lewes.

If this lad signs will he be expected to be a first teamer or a Dev squad? If Dev what does that mean for Torb?

Think you will find there are already a few threads on this but he is a striker in the mould of Buckley or Hoskins rather than a target man and it needn't/doesn't mean a thing for Agdestein's future (or Barker's for that matter) - if either are good enough they will do well and if they don't develop as expected they will move on in due course

My understanding is that the actual cost is something like £20K to £30K and the rest is all potential add-ons for things like first team appearances, promotion, goals scored, international caps at different levels, sell-on etc............. if we ever ended up paying anything like £100K it would be because we got ourselves an absolute gem

At that price it is a good deal because I am sure that MA paid more than that for Geoff Pitcher and Gus did for Holroyd both fron non league so not a lot to lose.

Just had a text and he's at the Amex signing as his contract tonight. Fee is undisclosed but will eventually rise to around £100k depending on his development.

he'll be a bit lonely then won't he, as they're all at Wrexham ??

I'm not in the habit of posting rubbish..... soon after my post Andy Naylor tweeted something very similar! Just because Gus wasn't there doesn't mean a deal can't be signed!
