[Albion] Noddy small club statistics

So this things about how we'd never beaten Chelsea in the league until this weekend, I admit I found that a bit embarrassing. It's the sort of stat you'd associate with Gillingham or Plymouth.

So i'm thinking about whether we have other stats, which you'd associate with the lower leagues where we spent so many of our years, which are still to be chalked off.

Can you think of any?

Lack of major trophies is where my mind keeps coming back to, but we're not alone in the PL of having a barren run there.

Never won at Stamford Bridge I suppose. Any other major grounds we've still never won at?

Also never won (in League games) at Chelsea (W0-D2-L5), Cheltenham (0-3-2), Macclesfield (0-2-1), Man City record is 0-2-11, Preston (0-5-9), WBA 0-4-7, Wimbledon (0-1-2), Workington (0-0-3). Weirdly have a shocking record at Crewe (W1-D1-L7).
On the other side, we've never lost a League game away against; Barrow (W1-D4-L0), Burton Albion (1-0-0), Dagenham & Redbridge (1-0-0) Kidderminster (1-0-0), Rushden & Diamonds (1-0-0), Thames Association (1-1-0) and Wycome (W2-D3-L0).

Still quite incredible.

I'm not sure that there is any team in the four divisions who Albion haven't beaten in a league match (who they have faced in one).

I may try and work out which team it is the longest since Albion have beaten. I think Fulham are the only team currently upstairs that we have never beaten in a top flight match.

The longest is probably Newport County, but they weren't around for a couple of decades or so.

There isn't one team in the EPL or EFL that we have never beaten in the league (apart from those which for obvious reasons we've never played in a league match). Chelsea was the last one.

I've been waitng a long time .....................................

At home there are 2 teams we've never beaten in League games.......................Kidderminster when we lost 0-2 in the 2000-2001 season and Rushden & Diamonds when we drew the only game we played against them 0-0 in 2003-04. Liverpool prove a tough nut to crack with only 1 win from 13 attempts, the other 12 games being 6 draws and 6 defeats.
There are 8 teams we've got the sign over where we've not lost at home; Barrow (W4-D1-L0), Burton (1-0-0), Cheltenham (4-1-0), Dagenham & Redbridge (1-0-0), Hartlepool is the best record and defo a waste of a day out for the oppo fans as we've played them 15 times winning 10 and drawing the other 5, Macclesfield (W2-D-1-L0), Scarborough (2-1-0) and Southport with a 100% win record in the 6 games played against them.
Other notable home records are against Coventry with only 1 defeat from 25 games (W14-D10), Doncaster (W8-D3-L1), Hull (W16-D-6-L1) and Rochdale (W7-D4-L1).
And finally Millwall is the only team who we have played both home and away in League games, League Play off games, League Cup games, FA Cup games and 'Other' Cup games (i.e the Paint Pot Cup and other iterations of the Football League Trophy).

That's why I was beaming yesterday. I'll tell you what happened.

I don't go to games anymore but listen on the radio. I love Johnny and Warren is a legend.

Anyway, I tuned in late and it was 1-0 already. I listened to half time and was getting too excited for my health. They pulled one back and I thought it best to turn it off as it was making me too stressed. So..

I put up the Football Web pages and covered half the score up so I could only see the Chelsea half. I went away and read a book and came back at the end of the game trying to forget about it. I thought that would leave all the anticipation to one moment rather than enduring 40 minutes of it.

I came back with my eyes shut, opened them, and saw Chelsea only had 1 goal. I doubled whooped when I saw we had another one (although I hoped it would be 5-greedy).

I was so glad because Albion had never beaten them. The Potter thing was a side circus. I just wanted Albion to beat Chelsea. The last match I saw was Albion there in 2019. It felt good yesterday. Really good,

The 3 teams we played the furthest time ago are Newport County, last played in Div 4 in the 64-65 season, Barrow was in the 69-70 season and we've not met Oxford in the League since the 1995-96 season.

Shouldn’t really call other clubs “Noddy” clubs.

Wasn’t that long ago we were in the third and fourth tier.

And given that we’ve never won a proper trophy, nor played in Europe, I am sure we wouldn’t like it if bigger and more successful clubs, called us a Noddy club.

The poster was only listing home matches - I was just about to post about a miserable evening I spent in 1970 watching Brighton get beaten 2-0 at Haig Avenue, then realised my error just in time! :)
