David Beckham - Should he still be involved in the England team?

That's what they are saying tonight.

People complaining about a lack of options when the only midfielder to come on is Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Well?

I reckon even when he's dead there will be people who want Beckham in the England side.

what can Beckham offer, besides route one from the right wing?

The best route from the right wing in the world coming off the bench is surely better than Shaun Wright f***ing Phillips?

Having voted 'bench', i think I'd have had him there tonight. But given our next competetive game isn't until next year now, it is probably time to give the youngsters games.

Just a shame that the likes of Ashley Young are also shit.

Adam Johnson was not great today, but his performances over the last few games warrant a run in the side.

Johnson is the future, Beckham is not. (although, obviously, he is still better than Wright-Phillips)

He's had his time at the top, but that was a long time ago. If he's the future of international football in this country now, we may as well throw the bloody towel in imo. I don't know where the solution lies exactly - even in the short term - but Beckham surely ain't it.

i thought you wanted creativity though? SWP deliveres more of that than predictable Beckham with his metronome swinging right foot passes to the heads of centre backs.

now if you wanted a bit of bravado, then Beckham might help. dont think that would have done much agains that lot tonight though, he'd just have been a scalp from them to kick.

If it was American football and we could wheel Beckham on for a dangerous free-kick then fine, otherwise forget him.

England won and achieved dick-all with Beckham in his pomp. Nowt is going to change now that he is in his mid 30s and had a gammy ankle. Although I do suspect you ate fishing for a binfest.

Not at all. I just can't think of anything more depressing than Shaun Wright Phillips coming off the bench

People have been using SWP as an excuse to drop Beckham for about 4 years now. He is shite and offers nothing, the same goes for aaron lennon.

I've been arguing Beckham's case for all that time because no matter how slow he is he still did more running and created more chances than the other two put togeather. People whould say that he's a one trick pony, which even if it was true it's now a trick that we've lost and not replaced. England are now a no trick team.

Unfortunately I think the achillies will be an injury too far. Time to enjoy the rest of his career in the sun, if he'd moved to MSL this season it probably would've been the right time to do it.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about in my last post. Apparently SWP offers creativity and the ability to go past people. Unfortunately he's never actually done it in an england shirt, but somehow it's better than Beckham's one trick of crossing the ball onto peoples heads, or putting a 40 yarsd cross field pass on someones foot.

Seriously, show me a couple of examples of SWP creating anything for england.

England had, I think SEVEN free kicks in dangerous areas last night. EVERY one of them was SHIT.

If DB had been on the bench last night, I for one would have been delighted to see him on for the last 25 minutes.
