Black friend of mine enquired about flat in Brighton, when he showed up, he was told it was no longer available...I went around with him..he waited around the corner, and I enquired about the flat...no problem... I called my friend around, and told him he must have understood what this racist woman had said to him....

Honest question - if it was the same story but regarding "english only" adverts, would you have posted it?

If not, why not?

It's a totally hypothetical question, the ads you mention dont happen , why not comment on the thread in question, or is it too difficult to admit that there is just as much racism from "minorities" ?

Absolutely, hating someone for the colour of their skin is ridiculous, its attitude and behaviour that matter.

I think the response below makes the most sense. The blacks/irish stuff was discrimination where as this person points out, it's wanting to live with a certain nationality. The clue is in the fact that they specify who they WANT to live with, not who they DON'T.

"Not allowing postings catering to particular races, genders, religions, etc is asinine. While non-discrimination certainly has wide benefits in society, flat sharing is something that should be completely immune from these laws. People not comfortable with roommates of another religion, race, or gender have every right to target only those who they would like to live with for their own personal reasons. For a landlord to discriminate against someone because of their status is wrong, but for flat sharing, it is entirely ok and only logical to limit the search to people one would be comfortable living with."

It is wrong...of course those adverts are in breach of the laws...

The only big difference to them and white racists is their honesty.
Ive experienced it, and im sure other people have seen examples of jobs and flats that are
no longer available when a black face turns up....even if that black face has an English voice on the
phone.
