Let's hope he can resist the allure of Walsall and get him to sign a new contract.

Albion fans have voted overwhelmingly for Andrew Whing as their player of the season for 2008/09.

The committed and hard-working full-back, who has defended heroically throughout the campaign, received a staggering 77 per cent of the vote in the annual supporters' poll.

The tally is believed to be a club record, beating the 41 per cent polled by Adam Virgo in 2005.

Striker Nicky Forster finished second with 13 per cent of the vote, while midfielder Dean Cox came third with 5 per cent.

Whing will receive his award prior to today's home match with Stockport, before trying to help the Seagulls secure the result they need to remain in League One.

The former Coventry City man joins an exclusive list of recipients, including Bobby Zamora, Danny Cullip and most recently Tommy Elphick.

The 24-year-old has also been voted player of the season by Young Seagulls members.

Might as well have been a 'player of 2 months when we were the shittest of the shit' award.

As a tribute to Whingy, I am going to tip out of the pre match pub a full ten minutes earlier than usual so I can see him get presented with his award.

You can't deny that my gesture reflects my admiration for the man.

I RUDDY love Whingy.

I also dreamt he scores today.

It's 1-1, 95th minute, Brighton have sent there goalkeeper up for the corner... cox takes, oh it hits the f***ing first man! but the ball ends up with Andy Whing at the 40 yard mark, he takes a touch, shoots... ggggggggggggggggooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Whing saves Brighton ( awaiting pitch invasion ).

That would be my best scenario.

I would agree with the 77% if the voting was based on performances for the past 3 months but the season lasts from August and he was rubbish for 5 months. It is like in boxing if you do well in the last 30 seconds of a round you will win the round because the last memory sticks. None the less good luck to him and well done.
