I keep getting random ads to invest in Tabor United, a Slovenian 2nd division football team.

I wouldn’t usually click but it got my attention. It looks like a US investment group have hired an ex Leeds/City/Utd scout Lyndon Tomlinson as Director of Football and they’re now crownfunding.

Part of the strategy is signing players from South America and Africa to then sell on.

I’d guess your money would be safer in a Slovenian strip club, but an interesting concept.

Seems fun. If I was a little bit rich I would have spent a $100 just as an experiment.

Sounds suspiciously like a business model I have heard of

I thought the same. How effective is it going to be in the Slovenian 2nd division vs the premier league though. Unless there’s some kind of play to secure visa’s / settlement for the African / South American players.

I always saw football clubs as notoriously bad investments but maybe you develop a few wonderkids and it can work at this level.

To be fair, if they try and become another FC Nordsjælland then it could work. Obviously they won’t have a Right To Dream academy (at least at first) but smaller leagues with lesser work permits picking up young players from Africa has definitely worked before.

That’s a good point. It seems like a slightly different model though as FC Nordsaelland operate as a not for profit. I couldn’t find any info on their accounts / profitability but like this sustainable model.

Maybe they’d be making money if they operated for profit.
